He is one of the best known persons in Israel, IL cant afford to not make a move to get him back, people would lose trust in their gov, thinking they dont care about their soldiers...
Afaik, many of the prisoners who were "given back" to Palestine were guys who had been captured on purpose so IL could trade them against their detained soldiers
Trading the people is not the only aspect of it.
On the one hand it is affirming the Hamas in the belief that they can reach things with violence. On the other hand equating one Israeli person to over 1000 Palestinians is also sending a message á la: one Isreali is worth significantly more than a Palestinian. I'm very surprised the Palestinians actually went with it because that only helps grow their populations' sense of inferiority. Then again they probably are too dumb to realize that.
