Best mate is home from afghan today after a 6month tour and surving getting hit by a grenades and setting himself on fire lol, gonna get smashed with him in abitch!

any of your friends/family done a tour? My mate was lucky not to have been seriously hurt, and not every is as lucky :(

Hes only home for a month, then he goes back to germany where hes based. Hes not leaving the forces yet, said he wants todo another tour. He said it was the best and most terrifying experience of his life and is staying until he's done another tour ;(

Jesus, i have never heard such a retarded statement. Not everyone who signs up for the army are doing it because they want to kill some "innocent" people, some do it for the honour and protection of their country. Just because they go to war for reasons that are not theirs to choose, does not mean that they arent hero's. Imagine if your country did get attacked and you had no one to protect it because they had the same logic as you. Hell, a lot of ppl sign up because they cant find themselves a decent job with the recession. You cant victimise them because "leader's" of countries choose where and when they want to fight.

Edit: im also sure that if you had friends or relatives that died through some faggot terrorists, you would potentially sign up yourself. Albeit that some of the wars that have been going on arent for the right reasons.

My statement was against the fact that you said that nobody that went to war should be called a hero. This is why i stated that a lot of soldiers dont actually agree with being in afghanistan etc atm, its just what their country is telling them to do. Also, if u did feel so strongly about it, then maybe u would realise that a lot of the soldiers are even more of a hero because they are being sent to places that they shouldnt be. Do you really think that most of them enjoy being in places like Afghanistan having to face IED's and suicide bombers? No thanks. Whether i support the war or not, these ppl are fucking hero's

The decisions of war are not made by the soldier's. It is made by the Government. If you feel so strongly against the wars then protest to these leaders, not against the soldiers who are just doing their job and risking their lives.

You're forgetting that not everyone is biased on improving the world around him/her in a friendly way. Some sacrifise human lives easily for power. We as a society need protection from those people.

Next to that there's an array of other reasons you can justify war with, wether you like it or not. Ofcourse it's terrible that humans sacrifise their lives for often materialistic purposes, but you've gotta start seeing the bigger picture man.

Two of my close friends both went to Afghanistan and happend to be Marines; Marine David Fairbrother who was a great friend from school who I grew up with recently died in action from small arms fire 10 days from coming home from is last ever stint. My other not so close friend but knew well from playing out with at my best friends house came back with just 1 arm after losing 3 limbs from a IED. War fucking sucks, you dont really realise it watching it on the news until it hits close to home. David will never be forgotten a true hero.

Sorry to hear about your friend, I've a few friends in the forces and have been lucky that none of them have been seriously hurt or worse. Not everyone is so lucky :(
