Wireless network

Currently sitting at a friend's place trying to figure out how to get her wireless network to... Well, work.

She's using a NETGEAR router. On this, her parents' laptop, it's working completely fine. On her laptop however, it's not. I've looked and looked and looked at everything I could think of to find some setting which is different between the two, with little success.

Of course, I'm not very good at networking and that's where you come in. Now, when I check the status of the network in her fancy-pants win XP graphical stuff it says she's connected to the network. However, it keeps saying "Obtaining network adress" (don't know if that's the right term as she's using a swedish windows) and it's been doing that for quite long.

help plz

try giving it a static ip address instead of using dhcp.

look at her parent's ip-adress, subnetmask and gateway (use " ipconfig /all " in a dosprompt) and alter hers a little.

for instance

parents info:

ip address: 192.168.1.10
subnetmask: 255.255.255.0
gateway: 192.168.1.1
dns : 192.168.1.1

Then make hers:

ip: 192.168.1.9
subnetmask: 255.255.255.0
gateway: 192.168.1.1
dns: 192.168.1.1

So you keep everything the same except the ip number.
It semi-worked :>

we got passed the Obtaining adress part and now we're super-connected. However, no pages will load

What make is here laptop. As i know some people with Sony laptops have trouble with wireless networks due to the "non-windows" software they use.
There maybe a button where you have to turn the wireless internet on, check along the side of the laptop.
maybe theres some mac-filter enabled in the access-point?
1. plug-out and plug-in the cable of the router :]
2. disable DHCP
3. do what Splodge said :p

that is all that I know :p

gL with it

btw... THROW WIRELESS AWAY AND BUY A LAN CABLE :D
sounds like mac filtering to me
