I have been working as a chef for like 3/4 years now and i'm sick of it. I was wondering what do you work as and how do you like it?
Any online jobs going too?

I pick phones up at Touring Assistance.
Yes it needs flexibility with the hours and etc. But either you like cooking or then don't do it.
Simple.
There used to be Eurocups for lasertag!

It's much fun. Loadsa pressure but lots of cool shit to play with. Their systems are great & it's a fun business culture with lots of autonomy. Strangest moment was being the second most senior person running the building during nights a few months back. Just under 500 people working during the shift and I'm in charge of everyone if my Ops gets pulled away! It's that moment where you go fuck if anything goes wrong IT'S ALL ON ME. Thankfully all went well!
Maybe a little advice for the "kids": yes, it's good to have a job you're at least slightly passionate about. But keep in mind that even if you get your dream-job, it's still a job and it's definitely not the same as a hobby.
To give an example: even if you do something creative and passionate like designing games. If you have to do it at least 40 hours a week and your boss expects results, it will spoil the fun and bore you eventually.
So don't bet on one horse, make sure you have options, even within the same field of work or even within the same job/position.
Heb jij dan iets vergelijkbaar gestudeerd in Nederland?
Dus ja, dat is vergelijkbaar.
Alternatively, I try selling stuff on Ebay (primarily clothes) which can be good business. I buy them second hand and then sell them on. If you want to please the masses of brand buyers - it's easy money.
I also work occasionally at a friends allotment, which pays decently again and I get to do it with a friend. Ideally, I could do with another form of income but that's because Im being greedy.
Apart from that, I am waiting to study in September at University.
love it
i get the chicks.
3 years of hard work in hot summers :/ always about 2 die in the kitchen...
the times are pissin me off.. always home @ 10pm or later.. now i got 4 weeks holidays until the real work starts! :D
Start trading for example with binary options(high risk/high reward in short amount of time) even if you dont have any experience. Learn some basic strategies(really, not hard) and you will generate some income from there too. Doesn't take much time either.
Remember, time is the most valuable thing. Use it to study something(dont go to school, u know what i mean) or do whatever you love to do.
Supply and demand still sort of determine how well a job pays, even if you are independent or freelancing.
But I agree that if he wants to do a new job, this is an interesting option. It's a rather free and exciting job.
"not everyone wants to do it". Well, if you want to be rich, then do it. The simple fact is that you cant be rich(aka have any kind of freedom to do whatever you want to do) if you have a original job. Just by working at job doesnt make you rich. Why people dont do it then? I say that because they fear and dont have a confident to do it. Also because they dont have any kind of education about it. Getting education about it doesnt require school though.
And it's not just the start thats hard, it's hard work all the way through, unless you get incredibly lucky by investing in something with a high risk/high reward profile.
The problem is really the start, when one bad or unlucky investment (like e.g a delay while building or renovating, economic low) could mean the end of your adventure. It's also not too easy for most people to gather a starting capital. But when you have more, the risks are less threatening, but still considerable once the bad investments pile up. Making a good investment really isn't as easy as you make it seem.
Investing and even real estate are extremly volatile, I think most people realise that. And if you make an investment, and it doesn't pay off, it's a serious problem that most people don't want to deal with.
let's say you buy a house, first of all you will need 10-20% of own capital. you can buy a shithole yeah, but that wont be worth anything in the future, nor will you find someone who moves in there. at least not in germany. people expect some standards.
you get something 'normal' for 140,000 euros that is basicly one apartment. meaning, you have 30,000 euros to invest on your own before you even earned something. monthly income for you will maybe be something around 400-500 euros. so still far off from getting rich.
then we come to the risks: you don't know how much your property will be worth in 5 years. people are moving away from the country side to the big cities. sure, you can buy a house in munich or frankfurt that is gonna be worth more than today for sure. for the same house that would be 300,000 to 350,000 euros. then you already need a real big amount of money so you can even afford.
next point: you don't know how the prime rate in 5 or 10 years are. you will still have to pay for the house, but maybe rates are at 10% in 5 years? they have been even higher in early 80s, so its not impossible.
next: you find someone who moves in, a happy family with 2 kids, both parents work, sure income you might think. mhmm, half a year later the wife moves out, takes the kids, the guy starts to drink, doesnt pay anymore and kicks in all doors and burns everything down inside the house. you think it doesnt happen? it does. we got cases like that here every now and then.
next: things break. the roof has to be repaired, you need a new heater etc etc etc.
so if any of my friends ask me about my opinion if its a good idea to invest money in real estate I give them a clear "no". the risks are way too high compared to what you can earn, unless you are able to afford a few houses with at least 10 apartments. and for that you already need to be sort of "rich". otherwise its like playing lotto.
Or lets say noone is quitting anything, but thing still is they arel using ~9-10h to wake up, go to work, back to home. Then your freedom is to choose what beer to take and what channel to watch from television. Or maybe you go to do some exercise. GG.
then again, maybe I became 'numb' about that subject after all those years of work: I think people complain too much, at least here in germany.
But I agree, it's ridicilous how the capital is distributed. Throughout history we made production easier and effortless, but we don't get to enjoy that achievement as much as we could. Instead a lot ofl the surplus goes to a few people in the form of money instead of going to everyone in the form of extra time and access to more products. So in the end we barely made any progress, it just doesn't make sense.
Just food for thought, I don't have any answers myself :)
"rich are getting richer while the poor are getting poorer" is a phrase used quite common, but people use it in a wrong way, cause they always just look on their own circumstances and think about things only of their society and dont take a look around.
for an african kid that never lived in a house, was in school, had enough to eat or drink or any medical support, the average european is as rich as for us someone with millions in the bank is. still, in that case "the rich should share cause its not fair" doesnt count anymore. people give a shit about fairness, they are just greedy.
I mean, for a man in a not so great job while the woman takes care of the kids at home it is hard to pay all the bills and you can't afford much. but is it really necessary to have all the shiny things like the newest smart phones, tv, car and a super duper apartment? it is nice to have them, but you can also be happy without it.
But still a lot of the things the average person wants, (basic medical care, good food, and even a regular car) could be available for everyone. I'm not saying we haven't made a lot of progress, just that we aren't maximizing our profit from this progress. Capitalism and even money are so ancient and outdated that maybe they no longer have a place in our society. From what I've seen we could provide 90% of the people with all what they want and need for only minimal work, but the system is somewhat broken, the surplus goes where it's wanted or pulled to, not where it's needed.
(What did you study again? I know snip0 also studied history :p )
I didn't study at all... just interested in politics and economics a bit. I used to think pretty "leftist" on things but with age I came to the conclusion the truth is somewhere in the middle. left of the middle ;D
making more out of something is easy (illegal buisness, investing, gambling easiest money)
making something out of nothing is the hard part : D
oh that risks.. well yeah, but thats the easiest way to make money:P
Also, since the timeline can be very short(like 15min) at binary options, going with 'trend' is quite usefull, like if you see the asset is clearly going up, its more likely going up after 15min more than down. Ofc there will be losses, but more 'winnings' than losses. Since the roi is usually around 170%, u need to get more winning bets than losing bets. Though, it shouldnt be a problem. What I see as a the biggest problem is the winning lust that comes when you start getting some profits. You should have clear plan how to 'bet' and stick with it. Also just bet set amount of your capital and stick with it.
For example: Let's say a stock went up the last period, it has 60% chances of going up (which would result in a gain of 70%) and 40% chances of going down (which would make your option worthless, hence a loss of 100%).
This gives you an expected return of: 0.6*70+0.4*-100 = 2% (more or less zero, if you include the transaction fees).
So unless a stock follows a very strong trend (like: if it went up, you got 90% chances of it going up again), I don't see how people are able to make money out of this (in the long run at least, let's say after ~1000 trades)
But I have to give you that at least you minimize the downside by using long options (or do you do short them aswell?)
hab gesehen, dass du wieder mal genug vom nerden hast :D
still less hours than i used to do in a pub co and don't get glassed anywhere near as much which is nice :)

The truth is you need to love cooking , either you will lose interest as you did.
But I don't really love to cook (not yet atleast). Do you think I should move on and see if I still like it, or should I consider doing something else?
Although your intrest may come up after few months, you never know. But I'll tell you , there is always a job open for a chef , they're always wanted ;).
Tho if you go to a lunch restaurant its only morning job. Depends on the place very much.
But tho , you can study the chef papers and then start to study somehting else afterwords so you have atleast somehting at the cover :)
But thanks for your answer mate, it really helped me! :)
I'm in a relationship atm and I can tell you it is kind of rough.
But tho , I've been thinking the same and I know it's veery hard.
yes its fucking huge
And a little music production on the side.
(ALBUM COMING LATER THIS YEAR LOL)
It's hard to find your path nowadays. Only few people manage to live out of their passion...
No matter what is your job, you will have some up and down. Maybe you are just a bit down right now and in a month you will think that being a cook is not that bad after all ?
But if you really want to change, I suggest you to analyse yourself and find what you are good at, what will make you happy to wake up every morning and to work your ass off for.
Save up money and travel, that one of the way to figure yourself out :)
