I just do not believe it!

Two years ago I bought a video card (ASUS Gef. 6800 GE 256MB, it's like GT) for around 450-500 Euro, and now when I join a public server, I have 30-40 fps in some parts of the maps. It's really unplayable, normally I used com_mafps 125, but with this I can do nothing when it jumps down to 30 fps from 125. As I remember, I had more then 30-40 fps with my old video card (Gef4 Ti4200 64MB) too. I tried several servers, and this problem is on all. I can't believe this is for that 500 Euro. Do you have any idea why is this low fps, or is that normal with that card?

- I have the latest nvidia driver
- and the latest intel inf driver too
- I reinstalled windows yesteday
- 1024 mb ram
- P4 3000
- Anitaliasing off, anisotropic filtering off, vertical sync off
- 1024x768
- maybe the best antivirus software (nod32) installed with automatic updates

Update:
- question #2 : Do you know what's the normal CPU and GPU temperature for this processor and video card?

Thanks for your help!

format, you should have more FPS unless you play 2048x1666 with AA8 AF16, so its probably software/drivers problem
- I have the latest nvidia driver
use old nvidia drivers
ye it's normal to get 30 fps with such a card :|

just clean uninstall(uninstall while in windows safe mode) the drivers and reinstall them then take ur et cfg and chack if there is a line in there somewhere that reffers to your grafic card hardware... possibly it still thinks you gave the gf4 you need to delete that line if you happen to find it and save changes
I have the same thing going on, I have a GeForce 6800 PCI-Express 256 MB, which was quite expensive at the time I bought it. During the first 5 minutes of a map I have nothing but FPS stutters, and my FPS bounces down from 125 and back up, only to bounce down and up all over again, and so on. It's like it's jumping against the 125 ceiling. One airstrike and 3 axis in screen will bring it down to around 40, which is usually the time I'm in combat, thus leaving my combat crippled with FPS :/

I used to get 333 FPS and more on any map when I first had it, and that includes radar =/
i have the same issue with x850pro. the thing is: switch the resolution from 640x480 to 1280 1024. u'll notice that the fps dont change at all. that means (imo) the low fps arent caused by ur gfxcard but by ur cpu. i have p4@3ghz too btw.
change country

i got geforce 7600 for 200 euro :o
You're all talking about FPS related to video card when you're graphics card has almost no effect on your FPS performance in ET as the engine relies almost entirely on cpu/ram speed. This has been said before :P when I went from an fx 5200 a budget card to a 6800 GT at the time considered high end there was hardly a noticeable increase in fps.
512 to 1024 mb ram gave no significant boost to me, while changing videocard made my fps 30 -> 125

vanavond wel ownen he... anders ben ik €250 kwijt :[

dus ff tan2 hard de bikkel uithangen

cpu/ram speed notice the 'speed' not how much you have :P as for the graphics card i'm sure if you had say a geforce 2 you'd notice an increase in fps on maps like radar and oasis but on supplydepot2 with a high end processor I very doubt you'd see much of an increase.

buy new PCu :(
i think u should use some older drivers, same problem here i had with an nvidia 6600 gt , and because i had also the latest driver my fps was changing so much, getting lower and lower
latest drivers != best performance

i use 81.98 with my 6600GT and have np...

Try changing the timings of your RAM.
virus? spyware?
video driver problem, try using older ones
remember that et is old and new drivers may actually cause troubles, so you'd better stay at older drivers, unless et is not your whole life and you need new drivers for some other games.
same here if yawn is running -> exit yawn all fine for me!
ET is cpu based , plz
That makes absolutely no sense whatsoever.

1. Windows
2. New etpro kills fps
BIOS ---> maybe AGP on 2X or 4X... use 8X
format c :x
heard a similar problem from someone else yesterday ( using a GeForce FX5500 128Mb with the newest driver ) and he also had fps drops , especially at some parts of adlernest
YOU ARE FUCKING SUPID
Running firefox in the background will make your fps bounce like tala described. It didn't used to be like this, I first experienced it like a month ago and ever since firefox will make my fps jump from 60 to 125 and back all the time.
this guy has 6800 (30 euros lololol)
he has 250 fps but puts it down to 125 due to unhittability (which he is anyway)

he has no problems whatsoever, try r_gamma 2
