The statistical death of competitive FPS

And other formats.

Check the link to see the gradual death of FPS over the year since 2006. Although there are a number of other methods now to create games, nothing will come close to quakenet for finding games. Sad to see!

i dont think its a proof of fps decline.

many games nowadays just have build in features that allow for communication, not to mention skill matching and stuff.

irc is just outdated. i myself didnt run it in ages[read since i play ql]
Note I say other methods, most modern games are implementing the same techniques into games now which is great, but there are still some issues with this especially when it comes to the older games. Therefore games without this sort of system (most of these are regarded as 'the competitive' fps games) that have traditionally used IRC to find competitive games are represented by this graph. There is clear correlation to the loss of IRC users and the decline in FPS games.

Personally, I favour IRC over any other system as it is highly practical and also easy to adapt.

irc is not outdated. Maybe for the use of finding wars/games. But its still there are many servers and channels for anything you can think of.

Now this is one huge and clear shortcut.

Hi Tristan :)
well tbh games like css are still full of people and they have an ingame option where u can easily find a game without joining any irc channel
but its still not the same it used to be :)
Kisses and hugs Tristan.

Competetive fps has been declining because it got overrun by a different style of games. Though CS:GO sets new player records every month and also has an active tournament season again.
To be fair, there never have been too many competetive fps games that were played by a noticeable ammount of people.

quaknet was a bad and sad method to find games. if you think otherwise ur a full-on moron but sure ur allowed to have ur opinion.
Declining numbers of IRC users does not necessary mean the death of competitiveness in FPS gaming. This kind of decline have been happening in every major IRC network. Social media and more advanced instant message services has pretty much replaced the good old IRC. I believe that, the main reason to this FPS gaming decline in competitions might to the games we play in major lanparties and tournaments these days.
When I quit in 2006 the game declined.
