It's not particularly necessary for regular officers to carry a weapon, we have CS spray and a baton if we need to use them. If there is a intel regarding a suspected gun/knife threat the armed response team will be sent to deal with it.

I remember reading something about police officers having to shout ARMED POLICE or something like that in case they are carrying a gun. Is that true?

They will identify themselves as armed officers, but you'd probably be able to tell just by looking at them.

Yeah it was Zon, Zuipen, Ziekenhuis, thats what the camera crew told me. I can see the catchup videos on RTL but you have to be in NL to watch them :(
