the topic is old. some german politicans still think it´s the videogames fault what happened at german schools.
so they r also thinking bout new laws, this is not unexpected. Actually they created one and r now discussing bout it. Now they found out, that this law would also forbid porns to be rented! So we will not only loose our games like ET, Quake or CS, we will also loose Freddy Krueger or Friday 13th - movies with FSK18 - and this includes porns.

Nur weil euer überaus hurensöhnlicher Innenminister Beckstein irgendwas meint, wird das noch lange kein Gesetz in Deutschland.
hab kein plan von politik, deswegen verbesser mich, wenn ich mir irr - aber dann würde es bundesweit gelten

The school shooting in 2003 was associated video games: the shooter had played Counter Strike, which was naturally the sole reason for his rampage. Not the fact, that he was a fucked up geek with -- obviously -- serious mental issues. If a video game could cause such behavior, we would have thousands of people running around with guns killing people every day. Lack of connection here is so obvious, that I can't understand why politicians in Germany can't see it. I guess it's good to have a scapegoat, when your children turn out to be crazy serialkillers.
The new proposed law is ridiculous: according to the law the developers, resellers and players of a game, in which "cruel violence is inflicted on humans or human-looking characters", could be sentenced to jail for a year. Sweet to spend a year in jail after playing couple pub sessions of ET...
At least that's what I figured :).
