False Awakenings.

It was Saturday, I'd been awake until about 6am, knowing full well that I had to get up and go to work at 12. Since my sleep cycle lasts about 3 hours, I figured I'd get up at 9 and just be tired at work. This normally wouldn't be a problem, I'd just sleep during the day to avoid feeling shit, or drink some high strength coffee, but I'd planned previously to go on a jog to town with a friend. I finally resolved to be tired during the day, it wouldn't be that difficult since fatigue only really sets in when you don't have anything to do, and I would be busy.

I got to sleep almost as soon as I put my head down, having set my alarm clock to half 9. Towards what must have been 9:30, I was dreaming about riding a bycycle down a road. I realised in a fit of panic that I was dreaming, and proceeded to wake up. I looked at my alarm clock and it was 14:22. This meant I had missed my entire shift at work, and I was in quite a bit of trouble. I got dressed quickly, skipped breakfast and headed out towards work; not in an effort to aplologise, but to meet my friend who I had arranged to jog with. About half way there some weird stuff started happening, I realised quite quickly that I was still dreaming. As is usualy with these things, I didn't enter a lucid dream, and instead woke up quickly. I looked at my alarm clock and it was around 9:40.

I felt very tired, so I resolved to spend another few hours in bed before going to work. Given the panic that had ensued during my false awakening, it seems ironic that I would willingly go back to sleep - Especially when you consider that I woke up at 12:05, running to work at ending up a good 15 minutes late.

Has anyone else experienced something like this? Or even perhaps entered the fascinating world of lucid dreams?

2much2read sorry
that's pretty damn weird sometimes i've had a dream where a whole manner of crap happens getting me in trouble luckily i later then just wake up =]
I had one years ago where I woke up, did all my usual stuff, then went to school. Only to realise once I got there I was still in pyjama's and everyone was laughing their ass off and pointing. Cliche, I know. But so vivid. Woke up straight after.

Another weird experience last year, it was about 1am and I was lying in bed with an extremely bad fever, having cold sweats and shiverring, totally unable to sleep. My mum walks in, and goes 'hi chris, feeling better?' and as I'm replying she fades right before my eyes. I was definitely awake, it was a hollucination from the fever. Very creepy.
I always had that dream... standing in the dinner queue and looking down, only to realize I wasn't wearing any trousers.

Another one I have frequently is that all of my teeth start to fall out and I have to spit them out of my mouth, not nice.

That's gross. It's a horrible feeling having a tooth fall out to.

Maybe it's a subconcious thing, you're worried you aren't brushing your teeth enough, or it could be symbolic of getting old.

Who knows?

I never understood the naked in school one. Must be a fear of being yourself and being socially rejected or something.
Parent
we yermanz love walking naked :)

i have that teeth dream all the fuckin time, every few weeks, i looked it up in a dream book and it said its causes by stress.. have a hard time believeing that tho
Parent
Ive also seen a dream where I go to school and got laughed at, I was having only my underwear cos I had been in such hurry to leave :s
Parent
I think i'v got something similiar to that, but my memories of dreams fade away really fast :(
Yeah same, I really had to struggle to remember what was going on - I still don't completely recall the strange stuff that led to me waking up.
Parent
because you got woken up by your alarm but you didnt get up and started to loose consciousness while knowing that you were risking oversleeping?

moral of the story is to go to bed earlier retard

(i planned to go to bed 1 hour 20 mins ago to get up for work tomorow:[ )
Man you're a second rate troll Mr Unblind =o(.

I consciously thought that another hour in bed wouldn't do too much harm; I'd also told my mum to wake me up at about 11, in case I'd slept in, but she completely forgot. Can't do much when your back up fails!

'pull a sickie'

i got a cool new ipa tshirt, dont tell me there are no perks when working 15hrs a day
Parent
i planned to go to bed 4.5 hours ago or smth d;

I used to have very weird dreams about little fluffy orange creatures floating in front of my bedroom door so I couldn't get out of it... hardly slept for 1 week :\

Also had some days that I dreamed that I was going to bed and fainted on it and everything around me turned black, after that my bed was starting to move and it flipped over... and then I watched spiderman on some german TV station wich started at 05:00 (n1 being early for school) and had breakfast with my dad for a few days :P
Ye, I had that when I stayed up to do a Uni assignment. Was only awake 30 hours, but I was seeing things differently, small things that made me take a 2nd glance. Like I saw a sign saying 'NEIGHBOURHOOD WATCH?', but it was actually 'NEIGHBOURHOOD WATCH!'.

Other stuff like that.
All too often :/

Usually happens when I'm thinking the night before that I'll prolly sleep in.

T'is a weird feeling when you wake.
Yeah, that could have been what triggered it this time. It's kind of frustrating, but also a relief, especially when you realise you haven't slept in ;oD.

lucid dreams can be very beautiful if you can rly control them, but sometimes when i wanted to change my lucid dreams, everything turned to a nightmare and i saw things which i didnt wish they would happen, like that i kill someone or split up with my girlfriend because of another girl

sometimes i had like strange dreams...i just wanted to have a little nap before i went to p.e. and then i dreamed smth, but suddenly, in the middle of the dream, i just woke up and breathed fast, knowing that i would come to late. it was just like a strange feeling which i had in my sleep :D
p.e. already had begun 30 mins ago on this day
Never really had that, but I did once have this strange experience when I woke up immediately after I fell asleep, but not really. You see, I did sleep all that time, but I didn't know it. To me it was as if I woke up immediately after I closed my eyes. My dad came to wake me up, and I was like "wtf ? i barely just fell asleep". It was like the time I had been sleeping never existed.

k
Ahhh yeah. And you're really comfortable when you wake up too, like you're just about to go to sleep. It feels like I've been cheated out of a night when that happens, I just wanna go back to sleep to make up for it.
Parent
I've experienced that, I think. It normally happens when I'm not really tired. I spend what seems like a few minutes trying to get to sleep, then I look at my clock and 4 hours have passed. I guess it's not completely the same since I don't actually lose consciousness, but it's near enough the same frustration =oP!
Parent
today i woke up thinking i slept like 2hrs, and it was like 16:00 WTF slept for 14hrs :d
Parent
that has happened to me, but only 1 time i can recall
was pretty weird tho
Parent
brb, coming to tuck you in.
The longer I sleep, the weirder my dreams become. Some years ago I dreamed that I would crawl through some barbwire covered mud piles to shoot Saddam Hussein only finding out that me myself was Saddam. When I woke up I realized that I had slept for 20 hours.

I prefer dreams in which I'm able to fly. Those dreams usually come up after around 12 hours.
I remember when I was at a friends house, I woke up and they were like "dude what the hell were you talking about Jean Luc Picard for last night?"

Apparently I said "I see you Mr. Picard, I see Jean Luc Picard"... A few days later I suddenly remembered being sat in my friends living room looking at his picture on the mantlepiece, and it slowly color morphed into the face of picard, and thus I pointed and said that phrase...

Weirdest sleep talking experience I had!
Are you on crack?

These side-effects can make you halucinate like shit.
False awakenings is an easy way to enter lucid dreams.
It gets really interesting when you directly start into a lucid dream. I'm always trying to build a portal while drifting off: a door or a mirror or something else.

btw has anyone seen Pan's Labyrinth? :o
