Unlike the poster above, I like the background graphics a lot. The layout, however, is a bit confusing...

I'd switch the account related things to upper right corner, and move the search to where statistics are now. That way you'd have the acoount stats where they usually are located, and search right above the page-specific content.

Otherwise it doesn't look too bad. Just slightly confusing.

As far as portals go, I like Jesse Bennett-Chamberlain's designs a lot. Clear, very well proportioned and navigatable... Most represent a bit different genre, though, than the design above. Examples:

der hintergrund passt nich ganz komplett zur seite, sieht aber sonst goil aus :)

Mir fehlt designtechnisch der rote Faden, das sieht irgendwie chaotisch aus. Bis auf die weiße Brücke sind die Elemente in sich stimmig, nur fehlt irgendwie noch was, das alles miteinander verbindet. =)
