r_lodbias x

hi, all config ppl, what does this command do, and what are the limits for highest and lowest lodbias? i heard its like picmip is this true ?

yeah its the rivatuner effect
i smell razz

its AA?
geometric detail level, 0 = high, 1 = medium, 2 = low, 3 = custom
3 = custom ? does custom mean you can make it lower, since im playing on a laptop i want to push the limits on low detail :P
Parent
Just set it to 1, or 2.
Parent
-2 = high i think -.-
Parent
I think when you go to negativ numbers detail will encrease even more.
Parent
doesn't work in ET. (useless cvar)

but you can force it with rivatuner.

Negative values make like a sharpen effect, so that the game looks more detailed, positive values decrease texture quality but also 2d "things", like your crosshair.
ok, so basically its illegal to have that cvar actually working? or is rivatuner allowed to a certain extent?
Parent
I can't say.
I don't think it's illegal, you need to stay in a decent range.
But you will see, it makes you crosshair pretty blurry before having a nice untextured game :)

And you shouldn't use it, it would make all the guys who take pbss whine.
Parent
As long as you don't start power using rivatuner and changing the lodbiasrange you cannot cheat. Don't worry :P
Parent
Yes, i know, but most people thinks high lod = rivatuner = hax.
So i don't think its a good idea, since you can have a pretty untextured game with picmip 3 & simplemipmaps 0.
Parent
You can use rivatuner to tweak your settings, as long as you do not use high lodbias. Afaik you had to make a new lodbiasrange variable, set the range to 15 or so. Then you could change lodbias in rivatuner to razz-levels. If you haven't changed the rivatuner poweruser/registry settings you can't do anything wrong with it.

ps: if you are using standard or stock drivers check if prerendered frames is put at 2. Standard drivers put them at 3 for increased performance, although 2 is better for input and faster reactiontimes. dunno how you can change this feature with ati.
Parent
Is the prerender limit at the same place with Vsynch in rivatunah ?
Parent
yeah, thats the one you need
Parent
actually u need a nvidia card to do it?
it doesent work wth ati cards right?
Parent
dunno what it exactly does, but 0 is highest, 1 is normal, 2 is low.
i smell rivatuner
google: gunslingers

download a few configs, most of them have lots of descriptions next to the variables. Afaik its the geometrical detail wheras 0 is default high quality and 2 is highest performance. Afaik it gives you the epileptic textures which aren't rendered properly and 'flash' when moving.
Flash and "epileptic" texture can be removed with AA or AF (don't remember which). And only appears only on positive lod values.

(But playing with AF 16x isn't really smooth.)
Parent
Anisotropic doesn't help :P I use AF x2 as it gives a sharper image, but when I tried the interface config It was liek I wus at teh cubl. Maybe TAA can fix it, using AA is just so 2003 ;)
Parent
So that's AF (you have to set it higher than 2 i think :) )
Parent
If you use AF the r_texturemode you choose in ET is ignored. Anisotropic Filtering 'filters' less or at least thats how Germany wipeout explained it :P
Parent
Where ? Where ? !!!!!!!!
Parent
ok because i have ati drivers and i set the configurations to lowest, but my crosshair is blurry.. but i get very smooth textures and better fps. but i cant see through trees and so on. the only problm would be the crosshair, hard to track with fosho.
crosshair blurring is caused by bad mipmapping settings, use highest quality for those. normally grafic driver settings dont really affect ET that much, unless you turn on VSYNC or AA / AF
Parent
im not that good with those commands. i understand th highr r_mode the easier it is to get a small clear crosshair, i tried r_mode 2 and people turned into 20 squares :P. how do i turn on vsync or AA/ AF ? i have ati drivers
Parent
never turn on vsync, it changes the way your mouse feels + its slower

you are looking for Temporal Anti Aliasing and Anisotropic Filtering.
Parent
mipmapdetail u need to have it quality / high quality for crosshair
i have both video and quality settings to low, but still i manage to have a reasonably visible crosshair, but that is trying r_mode 6, i will try with lower r_modes and see what i get :). ill post a pic !!

here the crosshair is hard to see but for me it seems easier to see than on the screenshot, may have to do with resizing i dunno. but i like it !
i love quality but u should like tru cg_drawcrosshair 15 or just use rmode 5 / 4 and just boot mipmap to quality / high quality
