Tosspot is being smart, he buys the domain now and sell it for thousands of bucks when the game comes out :))
which is illegal under the act of purposely purchasing a domain for the intended benefit of finance
Parent
try to prove it! i think he wants to do a rtcw2 community and if eventually someone is willing to buy that community for an acceptable prize he MIGHT sell it ;)
Parent
w/e if the makers of rtcw2 want that site, they can take it without paying.
Parent
LOL, thats illegal
Parent
what right would they have for that?
Parent
thats what i asked myself aswell
Parent
there is a law! if the name of the brand is well known and everybody connects the product with the company, the company has the right to set up a homepage with the name of the product/company....

e.g. if somebody would own www.sony.com he has to give the adress to the sony company.....

hope its understandable :)
Parent
ok, that explains it. But still it's a bit weird. Like, who defines which brand is well known enough and don't they need to pay anything for the hp? Probably at least the expenses how much the site cost to the owner?
Parent
yes it is strange.... who is able to say its "famous enough"?! but hey, welcome to european law!!11
Parent
my wild guess is that the name "return to castle wolfenstein" is copyrighted aswell...

which means it is illegal to try to make profit out a domain including this name
Parent
so, tosspot is a criminal now :( ?
Parent
who says he's going to sell it :p
Parent
rapt6rr at least!
Parent
well the only possible customer for this doman has the rights to own it
anyways, so it might not be THAT smart to sell it, considering possible lawyer costs :d!
Parent
Thats what I would do :))
Parent
the game isnt even called rtcw2 :PP
Parent
:o whats it called then?

Something like that happened with enemy-territory.com (not quite sure), where they were asked to give their domain name to Quake Wars. Not quite sure what happened in the end, but I believe they were allowed to keep their domain. Only difference is, they registered the domain long before Quake Wars was even announced.
