office 2007 sucks, i have it on my pc at home and its not what you want to be using yet since by default it saves in formats that office 2003 and earlier cannot read without adding packs to the install. Office 2003 and earlier do not require you to have SP2 ;)

i have office 2k7 for 1 month or sth and i still enjoy using it.
they fixed some pritty annoying things and the style and handling is new.
i m writing 4 of my subjects on my notebook and it is really nice...
if i were you i would try to fix your kernel problem

default save is in format (as an example) xlsx which is a new format released in 2007. Typically most if not 90% of people out there will not be able to read in that format. Microsoft have released an addon for earlier releases of office to allow you to read these formats however since most people in corporate offices etc dont have admin rights to their machine they wont be able to install this... soo it wont be as easy as you think to switch to 2007

for example we dont have a networkprinter in our house.
so i need to save as doc and send it to the other pc (which is not using office 2k7)
no prob anymore.
personally i totally enjoy using it

you have to rename the office folder to office11 (i think it is office11 xD but google and #care) then you can install q4 and after installing it you just rename the folder back =)

hehe i know what your saying but i'm an IT Professional so i'm kinding thinking like how most of our dumb arse computer illiterate users think and they will just hit save :) I agree with you that in principle there is nothing wrong with 2007 (like i said i use it at home) but at the same time its not so easy to just switch to it thus for 90% of people i would recommend staying with 2003 for now ;)

yes it is for free but i dont like working with it...
btw office 2k7 has the new docx file and it is pritty small
