How many press ups can you do!

You can try right now, any style you like! Diamond, wide arm, normal, just do as many as you can in one set! I consider xfire to be filled with average guys, average guys who happen to play games, but average guys none the less: I want to know how many press ups guys can do, on average. Exrx tells me 40 - 45 is average, I think that's a little too high, and other internet threads have yielded much cock brandishing which does nothing to sooth my quest for knowledge.

To perform a correct pushup you must:

Keep your back straight! Straight! You're arse should not elevate periodically to accommodate the build up of lactic acid in your muscles - This is the number 1 thing people do wrong when they do press ups.

Your nose must touch the floor! When you come down on your rep, your nose must hit the floor, your must touch and caress the floor with your snot ridden appendage, it must happen - If it doesn't, the press up doesn't count!

I expect you all to not care about this, but it'd be nice if people who don't workout or do any kind of exercise beyond walking would contribute - Those are the numbers I care about. Just to give you some roundabout figures: A few weeks back my brother could only do about 9 press ups, after about 2 weeks of boxing he's up to 16; a rugby player in my school, he's a bit overweight and most of his power is in his legs, could only do 16; the army requires soldiers to do at least 30 press ups consecutively .

Anyway, I'm bored, regail me with your athletic exploits! Also, if you're really good at any particular exercise, whatever it is, let us know, and let us know how you trained to get that good. Masturbation, sadly, is not an exercise =o(.

although i remember another one where this japanese guy did it and there was a video :)
I'm 16, and I'm lazy. I can't even do one.
I won't do any press ups at 2:47 on a Friday evening Saturday morning, thanks
Quote 16 years of school education

What did you study/What do you study? :p
Parent
it really took me 16 years to get my A Level. The normal way to University entrance in Germany are 13 years of school (now it's 12 I think). But you have to reach certain results in each grade, or you will have to repeat the grade. I did 3 times :P
Parent
i would go down on the floor for you (haha), but my muscles hurt too much atm, since i pushed my benchpress at home a little too har yesterday.
40, now my nose hurts.
40 is about where I'm at, what kind of training do you do, if any?
Parent
Havent had any money to spend on the gym so far this year but from the next week on I can start again. Had to stop boxing since it didnt work with my schedule but that was a pretty good work out when I had time to spend on it. So lately its just been running and... push ups!
Parent
Hehe, boxing is probably the most intense work out I've found. We do floor work for the first part then circuits with weights, for endurance though so they're not heavy: we'll do 30 seconds of punching with 5kg dumbells in each hand, 30 seconds of military press with 10 kilos, etc. It doesn't sound a lot but when you're doing 6 of them one after another it makes you feel like shit.

I run as often as I can, whenever I'm going somewhere I tend to run instead of walk =oD: running with your hood up at 3am isn't the best of ideas though, police tend to wonder what you're doing. Just out of interest, when you run, do you jog or run?
Parent
No sparring?! Thats where you get the good workout :) All senses at their peak level.
Parent
I'm too much of a new guy to spar just yet, all the other guys who spar have been going for years so they'd either have to go easy or just knock me out.

My friend who's been going for about a year comes over on the weekend and we spar in my garden, we go easy on each other though - Left hooks are rare, rights are nerfed, jabs are full force though; I'm trying to work on coming inside behind the jab right now, get some explosive movement.
Parent
Even if you are new they should still let you spar, at least against the other beginners. even against the more experienced ones and if they aren't retards they will go easy. best way to get better on sparring is by experience imo. of course you will need to know the technique and all that. but without sparring you won't get any good. Your reflexes will be pretty fucked up in the beggining i think.

when i got moved up from the begginer group to the competition group at my kickboxing club i was 13 years old, the youngest one besides me was 17:p so i got pretty beaten up even though they went pretty easy on me. i did place 2nd on my first competition though and 1st on my second one. sparring against better people will do you better than if you spar vs people who's worse than you.

don't know why i wrote this :p

I could do 35 when i left the army. Now I'm down to 6.
For our sports exams we had to do 50 to have a 10/10 and i had a 10/10 :)

+ 300 sit-ups (I had 243) 8.5/10
+ 20 times pull-ups (you have to pull your chin above a iron bar when you are hanging on the iron bar with your both arms :D or do it one time with only one arm). 10/10

But i'm most sportif guy in my class so I wouldn't say i'm average.
3 years ago i did 24 pull ups ! i could also remain "pulled up" over 2 min
Parent
That's funny, i can't do one. :(
Parent
Lagggyyy.... You're a sack! :D
Parent
Yeah, staying "pulled up" isn't that hard, just try not to laugh ;)
Parent
i think stayig pullled up is harder imo oO
Parent
Well, it's all in your head actually, when you are "hanging" there for quiet a time, you start shaking .. but you can still go on for a little time, it's your head that decides to fall down or not. That's the way you can see you are a winner / fighter or just a random person.
Parent
So true. Some days at boxing I can do everything at full effort, my mind seems to wander away from the pain and I enter what is commonly known at the zone. Other days, I can't stop thinking about the fatigue that's building and I end up having to rest or lower the intensity of whatever I'm doing. The mind is a powerful thing.
Parent
20 pull ups is quite difficult to do, I've started a routine to focus mainly on achieving that, but I'm lazy and often forget =o(. I think my max was 10 before I started the routine.
Parent
im at 10 pullups now i think :P
Parent
I'm 1.72 m and 59 kg i think, so even if I wasn't so sportive I could do 10 easily :D
Parent
Starting a Crossfire fat/fitness club? :]

You should be able to do plenty with those stupidly unproportional biceps.
Hahaha, man, you're too right =oP.

At boxing we focus mainly on the shoulders and triceps, so now my shoulders have grown a bit along with my arms: the downside, as I found out when I went clothes shopping, is that t-shirts tend to be loose on chest, but tight on the arms =o/. Biceps don't really help when you're doing push ups, it's also endurance so size doesn't matter at all - There's probably plenty of bodybuilders who would struggle to do 20.
Parent
Wasn't me.
Please Loekino, do this or go to bed.
cu tomorow.
THEY WERE RIGHT WITH STEALING YOUR ADMINRIGHTS, YOU CHANGED MY PROFILE SO I COULDNT LOG-IN ANYMORE ;(
30, but 5 or lil bit more times, nose missed floor :/

gn
It doesn't really matter if it only misses by a tiny bit, It's just quite a lot of people only go half way down or dip their head instead of lowering their arms.
Parent
I'm quoting Austin Powers: "You fat bastard!"
just did 45 to get your "average" result but I think I could have done up to 60 easily

anyways I go to gym 3-4 times a week :)
What do you do at the gym? 60 is quite a lot for someone who does heavy lifts, but it's about what I'd expect for someone who does more endurance style training.
Parent
mostly I do heavy lifts, but every now and then endurance as well. Also I play lot sports like ice-hockey, soccer etc
Parent
Did a quick session of 50 reps using these pushup handles: image: pushup

I might be able to crank up to ~70 reps on a good day, but to be honest, the lactic acid buildup in longer sets is too much for me to handle... And I have always been a bad bencher anyway, my 1RM is 125 kilos.

On the squat side I have been slightly better, my 1RM raw squat is 172,5 kg and front squat 135 kg. After I dislocated the si-joint in my back I've been training more like a fitness-geek, doing Crossfit training and such.

Recently I discovered kettlebell lifting, been trying to get the hang of it for the last month or so.
Kettlebells are nice, but I think they're hyped a little too much: in the end it's just weight. 125 isn't a bad bench, what's your bodyweight?
Parent
I have to disagree on the over-hyping part of kettlebells... At least I have totally fallen in love with the thing, it's the best single training equipment I've ever seen. I've actually been thinking about buying a heavier one, but the prices here in Finland are pretty horrible.

The only downside I can think of is the ease of inflicting injuries to oneself, when training with the ball. Non-centralized forces rotating arms and shoulders really suck. Luckily, such errors don't often happen, but when they do, you're probably already tired...

Oh, and I weigh around 88 kilos.
Parent
Ah yeah, for your weight that bench isn't too great. The squats sound pretty hefty though - Do you train for anything in particular or just to look and feel good?

What I meant by overhyped is that, although the shape of the kettle bell is unique, you can do pretty much every exercise with a dumbell, you don't actually need a kettlebell to do kettlebell exercises. I think the simplicity of it is what attracts most people: no need to bother with spinlocks, just pick up and go.
Parent
I just train, without any particular goals... When I was younger and seemingly invincible, I was interested in powerlifting. After my body started breaking up (back, shoulder, neck injuries), I let the whole heavy weights bullshit go, and since then have been more or less just training for fun.

Recently I've been thinking about starting MMA. Been sparring boxing somewhat etc. Without any previous experience it'll be really difficult though, but I guess I'll start it this summer. :)

All I know is Switzerland arrow can do 7 pull-ups with ONE arm. Any one beats that?
where is arrow havent seen in for a time ;o
Parent
He got pwnt by his mom, no internet anymore :(
Parent
last time I tried I managed to do 3, but 7 would be too much I think :/
Parent
Well, I cant even do one, so dont worry :D
Parent
Pull ups with only one arm on the bar? Or pull ups with one arm on the bar and the other arm on your arm - The second one isn't a proper one armed pull up.
Parent
Just one arm holding the bar, the other arm in the air. Arrow is a fucking beast :]
Parent
100, i've been training kickboxing for 5 years (not joking)
60, from 60 to higher i get exhausted in a fucked up way.
50 pressups is easy. 3 years of kickboxing + ju-jutsu is good for your body :P
about 50
