internet relay chat, mirc is an irc script so you can call mirc irc but not the other way around

Actually mIRC is a client - an application not a script. A script would be something like nnscript, which is a bundle of complex scripts used to mod the mIRC IRC client...

If you're using nnscript, then yes, you should probably use the built in nnscript colour/theme editor rather than the mIRC colour editor.
