For all ET:QW haters

After reading thousand of comments about ET:QW and how it's definitely going to suck because of some random reason I am going to tell you some stories about the beginning of ET for you newschoolers.

Back then we had only 6 maps in the maplist, Oasis, Goldrush, Radar, Railgun, Battery and Fueldump. Only Oasis and Goldrush were pretty much playable, because average computer of that time couldn't get good FPS in the other maps or maps sucked some other way. Radar was full of grass and fog, attacking to the East parts was a pleasure with 16 FPS and not being able to see anything because of the damned grass. In Battery Axis couldn't spawn to CP and Allies weren't able to blow the back door, so the map was useless for competitive play.

Finding a decent server was a problem aswell. Usually I just pinged around 80 to any .nl server. Today that ping would be playable because of the antilag, too bad we had broken antilag to play with back then. It didn't really help you to aim at anything, it almost made it worse. Bad FPS and ping = a pleasure to play.

We had these neat skill level upgrades in the beginning too. Basically this meant that Axis could put arties all the time to the key spots of the map, preventing Allies totally from attacking. For example last stage of Goldrush was always as interesting , Axis just put arties on the bridge and waited a sec to see how Allies team got totally annihilated by them. If Allies were clever and used truck way they would encounter 10 landmines and an rifle engineer with 8 nades waiting to spam them to perdition. Winner was decided by luck, eventually one team could get past the defence because of one lucky panzerfaust or support fire. My precious Garand had only 8 bullets back then, and it couldn't be reloaded before the clip was empty.

First there was ETtourney trying to edit the game to fit competitive play, but it didn't carry too far. After it came ETpro and started getting to game ready for real competitive play. We got thousands of new features, hitsound, good antilag and stuff like that. Spam restriction configs by CB helped the game to evolve to right way.

As you can see, ET was totally designed for public play only. ET:QW might look like it's designed for public play, but looks like ET:QW designers are really looking after the competitive side of their game too. If it's not fixed by them there will be another Bani to make things better by mod. But please don't whine about the game before it's released, it's just irritating to read these comments. It almost feels like some of you have some personal grudges against QW. Game may not be perfect when it's released but it will eventually get better. Just take a look of your precious ET and see how it has evolved to a great game from under average one it was in the beginning.

insanely amounts of whine about the game before it gets released, must mean that most of the current ET players dont like what they see atm? its better to expect it to fucking suck instead of expecting renewed fun(sigh q4)

this will be still a Multiplayer Only game imo, so even if the maps are made for 16 people, the esport scene and ID will be able to increase that number.

and i have a idea for the "new" class
a class like a k43 just a lil bit more damage and a lil zoom.
Option:
Can make (dunno english word for seil(Strick?)) to climb walls.
Examples climb he wall at sd
can plan mg, which the engi can construct, and everyone use.
Can plant sand sacks, which the engi can sonsturct to hide behunig them.

This would be good for teamplay, and new options for ending maps and new ideas for new maps.
What do u think about it?

so the big question that remains is, what will the average ET player do?, wait for the release of RTCW2 (which is released after ET:QW afaik) ... buy ET:QW and play it untill RTCW2 is released or play both....
I for one will wait for the releaso of the ET:QW demo, play it and if it's good i'll buy it. And when RTCW2 comes out i'll buy that for sure!

If competition play will be without vehicles and it will have spam restrictions, it might be a good game, as far as ive seen in the trailers the most action happens at some point of the map, you can't just run around the whole map... It's like 3 et maps in one ET:QW map.

P.S The map i saw in trailers reminded me of Fueldump, because they obj were: repair the bridge, get that cp vehicle in position, "hack" some defences with cvops(ala destroy fueldumps rebuildable fences?), and then destroy the main objective.
afaik you still need vehicles to complete the objectives, but you can't do everything with vehicles only

ET was almost like RTCW in movement/physics (yeah, slower rof, running speed(?) but it's still the same, you can jump from RTCW<->ET any time and it will feel almost the same), but QW seems much different, the weapons (shooting, spread, n shit), sprinting, we don't even know if there is strafejumping, it's not about maps and low fps.

Maybe you're a bit off with that expectation. The game is rated already, and an ESRB rating is only given to a final product (as far as I heard). So if they already reached the gold stage they are probably working on the last features such as the map creator, SDK, and the demo ofcourse. I expect ET:QW to be released within the upcoming 2 months.

Let's get it on!
There will be a clash between ET players who want QW competive 6on6, without vehicles and a lot of spam removed, and BF players who will want the game to feature vehicles, 8vs8 gameplay and a lot of spam. If the ET players dont cheer up the BF side will win it and ET:QW will not be fun to play competively. ;>

I mean, who says we will(as in et community) have the saying in ET:QW competition nature? What if CB picks up ET:QW and some BF admin becomes the head admin? We're fucked then, like it or not, it won't be close to et, you will have vehicles and other stuff which we wouldnt want to see...

the competetive bf clans wont complain about 8v8, 6v6 is better for competetion. 6v6 and 1-2 vehicles and loads of SPAM! :D

If i understand it correctly clanbase have the EC/NC for bf2/bf2142 in 8on8 that is whit vehicles played on 16 player maps it also has a OC for 8on8 vehicles played on 16 player maps and 5on5 inf only also on 16 player maps.
Only time will tell how the gameplay actully will be! hopefully it will support an infantry only tournaments altho it seems like the bf community have more active tournaments besides cb then we do in et

omg its interessting to read but u miss the point that et:qw is no rtcw2 but just bf2 in quake style. thats what the whine is all about. we dont wand battlefield, we want et/rtcw. so for most et/rtcw players that game will suck because if they wanted to play sth like et:qw they would have already switched to bf2 until now. get it?

i know there are some aspects involved from et like objectives and medic reviving n stuff but at least it really seems to be a bf clone cause of vehicles n stuff

ET:QW isnt RtCW2, but RtCW2 wont be ET either. RtCW2 will feature a great single player for sure, and seeing it will be made primary for consoles it will probably stay with that. If the game was released one year ago I'm be sure the multiplayer would only be in the form of deathmatch / team deathmatch. Luckily online console gaming is getting more popular, so Activision will probably spend more time on it, and add objective mode hopefully.

The only grudge I have about QW is that it isn't RTCW2 :).
the reason why it sucks is that it has nothing to do with et as far as i can rate this by the previews ive seen

rtcw only needed 2 years until it was kickass! ..

i never said et:qw will be crap. but i dislike the vehicle idea alla battlefield.. if i want to play such crap, i will install battlefield instead of buying et:qw ..

and yea, the developers thought of the competition, so they also added a feature to totally disable any vehicle or some vehicles ..

i do just home the weapon handling won't be crappy ..

every new game has it's problems starting off. just look at q3,
tons of mods .. or q4. q4 had 2-3 mods to make it competitive and now where it's almost as dead as q3, the developers themself brought out a kickass update...
q4 had only 2 mods, q4max and xbattle.
now q4max is the one and only mode and as is it seems q4 1on1 is getting alive again.

no strafing and bunny hops = gay game
from what ive been told and read from some articles there is NO jump strafing and no sprint shooting (pistol only with decreased firing rate)

et:qw will be a good game as long as u can run it. dont expect to use a shity AMD cpu and get stable/smooth fps
Strafe jumping will be in I think, but indeed no shooting while sprinting, but by default you run anyway so that should not be much of a problem. And if it is, removing that should be easy.

It's not a reason to get its gameplay close to the rtcw/et gameplay. I don't know much about et:qw but it would be foolish to try to make it as close as possible from the rtcw/et gameplay just because it countains enemy territory in it. Rtcw vanilla or etmain weren't that far from the last osp/etpro gameplay wise, and the maps weren't that different either. Looking at the et:qw screenshots, the gap would be quite huge. This being said, I hope I'm wrong and I hope it will be a great game ! :)
Imho QW:ET will be a big hit, noobs will love it, but as you pointed out it will take time to make the game suitable for competition.

Imho the first big ET clan to go QW will become the new dsky dominating the scene in its first year. And there will be lots of money to earn at lan competitions :P
and if more than one good et clan will change to etqw?

I like ET because it's fast paced and in an old Allies vs Axis style. I dislike science-fiction stuff with the ridiculous environment and weapons. I don't like quake either. That's why I'm probably not gonna like ET:QW, it's sci-fi stuff poored into a BF2/Quake environment.

Another question will be, whether I'm gonna like RTCW2 or not. I hope they will keep the same style as ET with old-style Allies vs Axis, just with new graphics and some different options.
Exactly! Quake 3 engine + WW2 environment = great game. :)

RTCW2 is definately using a new engine, so I hope they set it up in such a way that it feels similar to RTCW and ET. That's basically the only thing I'm concerned they'll get wrong, since a WW2 setting is (hopefully) a certainty.
