im planning on buying a new pc/laptop but atm i cant decide which to get

a.notebook
b.quadcore intel with 8800 gtx + 22" tft (£2300)

going rtw in november and the notbook would be a nice thing to have BUT is it worth the risk?

The desk top is more powerfull and i will get better performance with my design apps and also run the new DX10 games when they are released BUT ill only get 6months useage out of it :(

since your travelling i would get a notebook but i would get a durability notebook
So why couldent you use the desktop for more than 6 months?
going to be away for 1 year starting november

Well then if you cant take the desktop with you, there really isn't much point in spending all that money on it, unless you just have too much money then its ok.

In that case, buy the notebook ;)

i can get better spec notebooks but none look anything like the xps
im all about aesthetics matey ;)

Well i think the specs are ok, so i would buy that notebook if i were you. Since you only need it for 6 months. Are you going to take it with you when you are going to leave ?? If yes .. then take this 1. Otherwise just take a other 1 which is less expensive :O
Parent
yeah if i buy the notebook it will be with me all the time. It will come in handy in japan oz and US just a bit worried about se asia

that notebook one looks nice design wise. No idea which one you should get though ;p
that notebook is a portable desktop. carrying that thing will be a full workout.
I would recommend you too keep using your current desktop for the upcoming 6 months. In about 6 months just buy a cheap notebook for around €600,-( which can run all the basic applications, word, msn etc. ). And when you come back buy a new desktop!
Hmm nice leptup
buy the laptop, cuz when you are goign away for a year it's easier to bring it with you
rtw?

NOTEBOOK PLEASE <3 U
M2010 ofc
You're making a mistake with that massive monitor on the notebook. Get a 15 or 17 inch screen and then a regular monitor connected via VGA out. Otherwise I'd say notebook all the way, its all I use now
n1 toss matey :)
any u can recommend ?
i like the rock ones but i dont want AMD shit
Parent
You're very right that you dont want AMD, Intel Dual Core's for notebooks are just so far ahead of the AMD Turions theres simply no competition.

I have the dual core T7200 with 2 gig of ram and an ATi Mobility x1400. With this I can comfortably play ET, RTCW, Q3, Q4, HL2/CS:Source, however I cannot confortably play Quakewars, with the bottleneck being on the Graphics card. The T7200 is what I could call the lowest acceptable CPU for real gaming, dont get the T5 series or below.

Additionally be aware of how much you can connect to a notebook, if you are travelling then you're not likely to need as much of everything but when you come back you can easily USB soundcard, harddrive, modem, camera and more. I VGA to monitors and svideo to my TV when I'm watching a footie stream.
