webcam capture (video)

is there a good prog to capture video from a webcam? all googled ones i tried are shit, and same goes for the one i got on the CD. all it needs to do is to capture video in webcams supported max resolution @ max fps and save it in a desired codec or uncompressed.

i dont intend to record from my screen, but directly from a webcam
