Well...
I using the megui so:
virtual dub render as huffyuv codec (20secs 5GB :D)
then
sony vegas render as huffyuv codec (20secs 400-500MB ;))
and then
megui
But i have some problems with the music. I can't do it :(
I have the settings for x264 in vdub on my homepc, but I'm at my gf now, so I recommend you to pm rY`altrnt @ #webartdesign for the settings, if you havent found them I can send you them tomorrow or smth :).
i'm quite suprised people using x264 for virtualdub.
x264 in an .avi container is quite bad. the options for x264 in an avi container isn't that good either. I would rather recommend Megui in an .mp4 or .mkv container.
though i don't recommend it for final movies but that profile is good enough for small clips.
Its much easier to render in a mpeg-4 .mp4 container then in .avi container.
Megui is faster and easier ;)

render first pass, then render it again with nnth pass (overwrite 1st pass)
i don't quarantee the best quality, but these are my settings and they are good imo.
