I need to download footage of British political figures, like Thatcher, Blair, Cameron, Major and their governments. Any format that I can edit in vegas is fine, but youtube ones just wont do.

Back in the day, before youtube, everything was hosted in .avi or .wmv on crappy websites that gave slow downloads. Now they've all put their stuff on youtube which screws over me!

Any idea where I might be able to download such files? Newsreels, movies, political broadcasts anything like that.

Each good film found to download will be rewarded with ONE marks and spencer cookie each, these cookies are worth 55p and are bloody nice.

I meant use a program to record video's broadcasted on Youtube as .avi, or another editable format. Unless ofcourse Youtube's quality or screensize is the problem, which isn't stated in his original post.
