Journals
If you aren't a linux user I'd say this journal is rather unimportant for you.
However, last night I was messing around with getting a newer, more stable version of wine working.
It was an endless struggle, which I this morning still had not solved.
I did this;
echo "app-emulation/wine ~x86" >> /etc/portage/package.keywords
emerge wine
emerge --sync
emerge --update wine
while trying to update wine I was told that my current profile was outdated, and I should upgrade to 2007.0/desktop, and the instructions were:
# emerge -n '>=sys-apps/portage-2.0.51'
# cd /etc
# rm make.profile
# ln -s ../usr/portage/profiles/default-linux/x86/2007.0/desktop make.profile
# This profile is deprecated and will be removed on or after June 1, 2007
Calculating dependencies \
emerge: there are no ebuilds to satisfy "media-video/nvidia-glx".
(dependency required by "app-emulation/wine-0.9.38" [ebuild])
I can however not remove make.profile. It claims to be a directory, but isnt. I cant remove it, and honestly, in this point of time, I think this is a very bad idea hence I have now fucked up everything.
If I try to do anything, let's say emerging something random:
bitch etc # emerge wine
!!! ARCH is not set... Are you missing the '/etc/make.profile' symlink?
!!! Is the symlink correct? Is your portage tree complete?
I have NO clue what so ever of how to proceed. Help please! :(
Oh edit, it's solved, thanks to ronner for his pro friends! Love ya!

- turn off pc
- leave linux to geeks'n'such
- open drawer
- grab dildo
- play with self
how about that :P
oh wait.. ENGLISH MOTHERFUCKER!!
Geek 4 u
you need to remove these two packages and emerge "nvidia-drivers"
np!
or "unlink /etc/make.profile"
also dont work?
TBH i never used gentoo, but i guess your problem is somewhere in that file.
eselect profile list ,and then search, default-linux/x86/2007.0 and do
eselect profile set #(numer)
if u totaly delete it just try to do a sync : emerge --sync
GL
tell me if its working
try as well: env-update && source /etc/profile
my make.conf: http://phpfi.com/241377
edit: make.profile is at least for me a directory...
oh and did you ever started a dispatch-conf after updating your system? i guess thats the problem there ;)
