Today i got home from work, grabbed some food and headed onto the internets.
Turns out that Quakecon 2007 will have a fully featured Quake Wars tournament with cash prizes. Did the news surprise me? I'd have to say no. With Locki adamant that competitions want to use ETQW as a competitive game and the extra ordinary hype around the public beta, it really was a sure fire thing.
I've been reading various comments, mainly from this site on how ET is dead or is now going to die. This saddens me, but not because i'm an ET fan.
It is no secret that i dislike ET. In fact i made it pretty clear (and still do) that ET is the inferior game in comparison to RTCW, so why do these comments sadden me?
Name one reason online gaming is so popular. Human interaction, mainly in the form of a community or a number of communities being brought together. The ET community is (or at least was) thriving. Euro cups, ladders, leagues, and even LAN events have put ET on the map. It's a bloody popular game and the communities involved are the biggest reason it's come to this.
What ever happened to people playing online games for the communities and fun factor? How on earth does the fact that Quakecon have not announced an official tourney for ET automatically make the game "die"? It should not even be a factor of whether you play a game or not. If you enjoy the game, you play it. If the community is good, you fucking stick with them and continue to have a good time. Think of all the other events people are doing for ET whether it be online or LAN and realise that sticking with the game you love (yes, love) is the best thing you can possibly do.
Quake Wars is still in beta, it cannot even compete with ET at the moment. I'm not saying ETQW has no chance of over taking ET as the online game of choice. I'm just pointing out that high status LAN competitions satisfy such a small percentage of players' needs that you should carry on doing what you do best - Running a tight community and playing the game you love.
Am i right or am i right?

as a spectator i don't enjoy watching random teams playing each other on ETTV
also as a player it's hard to find good opponents now :(, kids, idiots, cheaters, lowskillers (pretending to be med -=+=-)
No quakecon = the biggest lan event for ET gone = less competitive players who can maybe get funding to go to quakecon = possibility of a reduction in good online players and teams as they know they can't win big bucks at quakecon = possibility of lower skill matches = boring spectating or stagnant community.
Proper reaction is probably required.
"xD"
Reaction complete.
South park ownz big time :DD
and
SOME SAY ET WILL FADE AWAY, BUT IT WONT, IT WILL NEVER, NEVER DIE
Now go cry.
