XviD, can be viewed with basically anything.

Edit: one of the best ET-movies ever btw :>

So I guess the file I downloaded is corrupt, tried to play it using Media Player Classic, every time I get the error that some pins of the graphics couldn't be rendered blablabla. Damn.

Try re-installing your codecs or just use VLC like the d00ds above already advised, since VLC uses its own codecs.

I heard that VLC has problems with playing files encoded with H.264 (HD movies), so I'll stick to Media Player Classic.
