In music?
well i know they r around rock/punk but i think they made the basics of indie rock and alt.rock too...(and nowadays UK is the home of these 2 genres)
with this song i think they made the biggest impact on the youngsters in england.
ofc i m talking about The Clash (once not the beatles)
London Calling (1979)
London calling to the faraway towns
Now war is declared - and battle come down
London calling to the underworld
Come out of the cupboard, you boys and girls
London calling, now don't look to us
Phoney Beatlemania has bitten the dust
London calling, see we ain't got no swing
'Cept for the reign of that truncheon thing
CHORUS
The ice age is coming, the sun's zooming in
Meltdown expected, the wheat is growing thin
Engines stop running, but I have no fear
Cause London is burning and I, I live by the river
London calling to the imitation zone
Forget it, brother, you can go at it alone
London calling to the zombies of death
Quit holding out - and draw another breath
London calling - and I don't wanna shout
But while we were talking I saw you nodding out
London calling, see we ain't got no high
Except for that one with the yellowy eyes
CHORUS x2
The ice age is coming, the sun's zooming in
Engines stop running, the wheat is growing thin
A nuclear error, but I have no fear
Cause London is drowning and I, I live by the river
Now get this
London calling, yes, I was there, too
An' you know what they said? Well, some of it was true!
London calling at the top of the dial
And after all this, won't you give me a smile?
London Calling
I never felt so much alike, like-a, like-a...
yes i m bored and soz for my english probs

r u listening to movies while porn?
They've such an amazing back catalogue, progressing from the On Broadway collection to discovering the likes of Give 'em Enough Rope & Sandinista! to the reggae on London Calling - there's no band like it.
Their later bands are equally great...Big Audio Dynamite, Joe Strummer & The Mescaleros and Carbon/Silicon are all worth a listen.

in general britians can be proud to have such a good music scene even nowadays with bands like libertines, kasier chiefs, arctic monkeys, ff etc.
and what pete doherty adapted from libertines was the mix of different types of muisc from indie over punk to reggae. this makes babyshambles sweet ;)
Concerning Coldplay & Genesis, they both contributed in their own way, Genesis besides Pink Floyd is the best progressive/psyhedelic rock bend ever, while Coldplay is surely one of the best alternative bands out there, and they're songs just have amazing lyrics...
u2 : Joshua Tree, Achtung Baby
Coldplay : A rush of blood to the head or Live 2003 album where most of their songs sound quite better.
If you think that classics from u2 like With or without you, Where the streets have no name, Beautiful Day, One, I still haven't found what I'm looking for ( I could go on for ages), are bad, than I guess you can't call yourself a rock fan
Coldplay & U2 are overrated shit.
Kaiser Chiefs :
1. album - I predict a Riot - nothing else was worth mentioning
2. album - Ruby - overrated song sold to the masses
Anyway I saw KC live less than 3 weeks ago, together with Placebo & Queens of the stone age, they had the worse performance by far.
Kaisers aint a ground breaking band, but they're good.
second: i was giving examples of the new britian music culture and not he good oldies. should i mention sex pistols ? ;)
what i wanted to say was, look at the new great bands in britain: more examples like the kooks (one hit wonder yeah), bloc party, fratellis, hot hot heat, (razorlight yeah bassit from sweden)
and look at the influence of the scene and the variety: the streets, morrisey etc.
