i would go for the hd270.
its pretty cool because u can laught @ the guys with the cheaper one. thats what i do all day mwuauahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahah
Sennheiser HD595 without a doubt. Soundquality is superb! I've tested all the others but this one had the best soundquality. Also be prepared to buy a more expensive soundcard! Or else none of the high-end headset are useful.
What you also need to look at is if you want a closed headset or not. If you go a lot to lans, you might want to reconsider a different headset e.g Sennheiser 280Pro. This headset is a closed one, so that you won't be bothered with noise from "outside" the game.
The HD595 is not a closed headset, but I don't want to be isolated from the world whilst playing a game, I do want to hear the doorbel and phone, so the HD 595 was perfect for me.
But hey, don't take my words for it, go to the store, and test the headsets and if you like one buy it cheaper on the net :D
I personally have the Creative X-Fi Platinum. And i hear things I never heard before whilst gaming and listening to music. However this a pretty expensive soundcard, and you said that you wanted one cheaper.
I don't have any experience with these, but I would recommend one of these:
1) Creative X-Fi Xtreme Audio
2) Creative X-Fi XtremeGamer
Look up the specs at creative's site, and then choose which one comes close to what you want.
