Optical vs Laser

Whats the big difference between those 2 ?
Do you notice some different in movements, tracking, reaction time,...

Or what is the big deal with these things ?

For example
MX 518 vs G5 ? (Soz don't know razer stuff)

euhm i'm not intrested in what mouse you got but in the difference between a laser mous and a optical mouse.

most normal mice have 400dpi optical sensor

lazer mice have 400-2000dpi in most and u can edit them

all expensive lazer gaming mice will perform as well, if not better than optical ones, although the optical fanboys will be like ZOMG SHUT THE FUCK UP OPTICAL MX518 OWNS YOU... because someone who was moving the mouse faster than the speed of sound that impossible when sitting infront of a desk playing a game saw a slight change in the direction of a pointer on microsoft paint but not when he was actually play a game

when really, there is no visible difference between that of the 518 in ET to the g5 set on 400dpi in ET...

and i use the 3.0 intellimouse which i prefer in quake for locking on... but i prefered my g5 in cod2... dont know why :)

exactly what i meant in the above post, people like this guy beleive all this stuff on esreality mouse tests that are all done away from game :p

You can deny it, but it doesn't change the fact that mx518's tech *is* better. How well a mouse performs in game is for the most part subjective (high sense? low sense? dpi? etc.). I doubt you'll find many people saying a mouse with crappy tech does perform great in-game.

And I actually doubt that with current tech a laser mice can be as good as an LED one. Let's wait & see how dual-laser turns out.

I rly dunno but in ET and old skewl games like q3 optical mice perform better. When I played CoD 2 my m$ ime 3.0 and 1.1 optical were complete crap compared to rzr db which was complete suckage @ et.

that was my point :P i think it has to do with how accurate you have to be for headshots accross a map like in cod2... especially with flick shots

laser sucks @ glass when you turn your mouse quickly around it hangs and optical doesnt have that, and I have the feeling that G5 got really much accel and with my 3.0 i dont feel it , and yes the G5 is fucking heavy even without any weights in it. btw the glidez of the G5 are very nice thats about it
