CDC3, an interesting situation.

I read the cdc3 maths journal by pumu, and while it's interesting, I don't think Tosspot is the type to extort money out of players for personal gain. That being said, I do think the prize distrubution is, to the say the least, unfair, and that the ET community as a whole is being taken advantage of:

Prize money per player:

Enemy Territory = 43 # (6200)/(6 * 24 * 50)
Warsow = 62.5 # (1500 / 24)
Quake 3 = 125 # (1000 / 8)

That's -7 euros for every ET player that signs up. What this means is that ET players are subsidising the other games in the tournament, beefing up their prize budget whilst taking a hit from their own pockets: not the best way to treat the people who built this community and sent Tosspots team to quakecon.

We need a pers conference from TosspoT inc. tbh
I actually start to feel a bit sorry for TosspoT, he's always organising these events and stuff, and there's always a bunch of people whining about money/cheaters/players etc.

+D
I agree that most of the time it's incosequential bullshit, but this is a legitimate complaint. Why not, for instance, reduce the cpm prize to 200 or 300 euros and invest the 800 euros you save into the ET prize fund. 200 euros is still a respectable amount for one person to win.

What I typed wasn't really true. I can't be bothered by those critical comments of people, but I just admire TosspoT's work. About the price dividings, let's just wait till TosspoT had his word and then make conclusions.
Parent
I don't admire what he does, he isn't an altruistic philanthropist, by holding these kinds of events he gets plenty of personal exposure, respect and industry connections; I am sick of self righteous asshats claiming that they "do it for free" out of the goodness of their own hearts, and that becasue they do this they shouldn't be critized or questioned, but instead followed like as if were were part of some cult: everyone has something to gain, they wouldn't do it otherwise, and as such they are open to the public forum, whether that be for praise or blame.

I will not treat tosspot as a holy entity, or in a manner in any way different than I would a man on the street (Fusen), simply because he organises a gaming event.
Parent
Just the fact that he keeps organising these events after floods of whine keeps surprising me.
Parent
i would rather open 8 extra slots for CPM (there was enough signups), and then put more money in ET
Parent
I would rather that too, but it might be problematic from an organisational and time management stand point; in either case, however, my point remains.

SHOCK AT TOSSPOTS DISREGARD FOR OUR FREEDOM
Parent
I DISAGREE WITH YOU ON THIS ONE

Nellies original comment, paraphrased from memory:

QuoteKinda like how CoD is the only reason ET ever had a lan?
Prize money isn't the only expense you know.

That isn't the point, the point isn't that you're making profit or not, it's that ET players are getting the short end of the preverbial stick with regards to prize money: it's not being divided in a fair way.

CoD is the only reason? So I suppose the fact that this community is built around ET, that there are people who will always attend at ET lan, counts for nothing? CoD is not the only reason ET ever had a lan, I believe the only reason there was a lan in the first place was because Tosspots ET team won a large some of money at quakecon. And remember, if you will indulge your ever so small memory, how that team ended up at quakecon in the first place.

Edited before you'd replied after having read your posts further down :) You're blatantly on a windup and I don't want to give you the oxygen, but...

CPC 1 was planned well before Quakecon - and don't make out like you care, as if you're sticking up for ET - you don't. To exaggerate and distort aren't nice traits :)
Parent
Totally agree.
Parent
I'm not distorting, the fact remains that ET players are not recieving a fair proportion of the prize money; ET players are funding the other games in the tournament with their entrance fees, they are paying so that Quake 3 can have a higher prize fund.
Parent
They're not.
Parent
Oh, so I suppose the surpluss funds are going towards snacks and balloons?
Parent
Candy floss.
Parent
Oh, nellie, you should ask for a diamond studded leash.
Parent
Your reply is almost laugable, are you honestly trying to tell us to be grateful that you're holding a LAN for profit, at our expense; and please, even if you do not profit monetarily, you profit in other ways, so don't try and pull the "I'm doing this for free!" card.

We have a legitimate complaint, you tell us that we should just be grateful that we have anything at all. I suppose you're the type of person who thinks children in Africa should be "grateful" that Bob geldoff hands them a bowl of rice every now and again.

"us" "we"

You're signed up?:)
Parent
I suppose you're unfamiliar with the idea of a community?
Parent
You're unfamiliar with the concept of customers paying for a service. CDC is run for the site and for the teams who wish to attend, I dont mean this in an aggressive manner sock but its not run for you.
Parent
No, I'm not, I'm unfamiliar with the concept of one set of customers paying more money for the same service, at the same event, run by the same people, for a game which is more integral to your survival.
Parent
Where abouts are you? I went to get some grub from town and the press tent with my laptop+bag is shut and my bus tomorrow is at 9.15 :X
Parent
Before reading this one I would have to agree with you.

Some people are being way too overly critical, but what sock posted stands... yes there are other costs, but it seems that the ET players are paying for that more than the warsow and cpm players...

Maybe I'm just too tired to work this out but it does seem odd... although I guess ET players aren't the ones who should be whining about something being unfair.
Parent
forget these whiners toss. tbh to get a lan with the amount of prizemoney offered born from a site predmoinantly dedicated to a freeware game is an amazing achievment.

Main Points: we're talking about prizemoney against ticket prices profit here, wht about the huge amount of other costs involved. and at the end of the day, make a loss on each lan and the prizemoney is just going to get smaller. xfire is the main reason et is still alive today.
Parent
his LAN :P his rules
If someone else was organising a similar LAN event, that had ET there as well then maybe, questions could be asked as to the distribution of the LAN proceeds via players & sponsors.
I understand Toss but still dont know why warsow score is higher then ET, warsow and q3 players are for sure nice people so they give us some euros per player to ET, am I right? :) If not - ET players count > them :P

You should read the replies in the other journal, particularly to desu as they apply to you to. "No offence, but I dont consider anyone but myself on a 'need to know basis' for that kind of information, if that brings whine on me, so be it." There is logic on the movtivations behind such actions, certain people, partners, concepts, companies that nobody outside of me nobody knows and I'm not going to write a blog of every decision and motivation I make and have. Once again, if you dont like that, dont come.
