didnt find it through google

apt-get just brought me version 3.0.24

Why do you even need 3.0.25? Sure, it's a good thing to run the most up-to-date version, but why the stress? .24 works fine...

Oh, and I know nothing about apt-get and .debs and whatnot. I've only ever really used Slackware (in the old days) and Gentoo (now). :p

Surely there has to be a way to not have to install samba, since it's an optional dependency of a dependency. :x

I mean, check this out. Samba barely gets a mention (with default USE-flags).

compile it urself n make some .deb from it, there are several howtos for this in the web. it might break ur packet-management though on longer terms.
