r_mode 6 is 1024x768 px
r_mode 8 is 1280x1024 px

common sense conducts me that processor got easier job to produce a frame with 786432 pixels, than with 1310720 pixels. that means your pc will produce more fps with lower r_mode. basically, the better computer you have, the higher r_mode you can afford to. of course you need to have good monitor* as well.
also, the smallest is r_mode, the bigger are pixels (as they still got the same superficies to fill up) and that makes the quality of picture lower.

cheers

* for example my lcd supports 1280x1024 at best. i use it in windows. but because i got shitty pc i use r_mode 6 in et.
ah ok i see :). thanks for advice, prob stick with 8.

Computer is pretty good. 100 FPS stable every map :>

EDIT: same with me my LCD supports 1280x1024 on desktop etc, so maybe ill try 6 for abit.

woo 100 fps stable with r_mode 8 -> then prolly you can get 125 with r_mode 6, but i dunno only wish you that :D
Parent
haha :), i hope so too :>.

r_mode 8 125fps 180hz displayrefresh
Wow :o "risplayrefresh" that must be a new type of display refresh ye? ;o).
Parent
r_mode 10 = uberskilled
btw, you got lcd, so prolly you wont get bigger refresh rate than 75Hz, so putting displayrefresh with value from the moon wont help you :)
