firewire isnt that much faster afaik USB2.0 at full speed is 420MB wheras firewire does 480MB, somthing along those lines. USB speed depends on processor power however.

slow.. you should take the HDD out and put it in your pc:) unless you only plan on using it for music/movies etc.. but for games/fraps etc.. naah :(

I had to buy a few external HD some time ago and I also chose the ones that could work without an external powersupply. Unfortunatly the disks crash on some pc's when connected without an extra powercable :/

the normal external hd's (meaning with external powersupply) get broken so fast I've heard, the cable connected to the external hd gets broken in no time

mja als je er gewoon normaal mee omgaat is er niks aan de hand
en dat zullen wel de goedkopere merken zijn geweest

bovendien (zoals overdrive ook al zei) crashen externe harde schijven die via usb stroom krijgen nogal snel op sommige pc's

de voeding in je pc zal dan ook wel aardig goed moeten zijn

yep true, ma die hadden vooral het probleem van het volgende, dus telkes stroomkabel in en uit, zeker als student (school, vervoer) enz, na een tijd verbreekt dat contact in de kabel zelf, heb ik al van 3 personen gehoord
en allemaal met normaal gesproke goede merken, 1tje was maxtor
maar ivm de voeding van de pc, daar heb ik geen idee over :)

99€ is a normal price nowadays
just came home with a 320GB usb drive I bought for 70€
I can remember the good old times when I was proud of my 150MB drive which costed like 150€

Cache 8 MB

16MB would be nice, an extra power cable sucks ass but some pc's just crash when you connect a hd without power cable

saw a promotion this week in carrefour (be and fr only i think) for 500GB external with 16mb cache @99€

8mb cache is fine for storing music/movies etc, but if you'd like to run games or heavy apps from that hdd you'll need 16mb..
atleast that's what i heard
but the one eXoz posted looks a lot better imo

specs look alright

still, i'd go for a good brand like WD just because you have less chance the hdd crashes or gets very hot etc..
i know a lot of guys that bought themselves a cheap external hdd which crashed after a few months
all your music, movies, important files lost just because you had to save ur lousy 40 euros :'(
not saying WD can't crash ofcourse ;P

running games from an USB stick is retarded anyways :P USB speed depends on the cpu usage, or put in another way: USB uses cpu contrary to firewire. Firewire are about the same as USB2.0 when your pc is doing shit.

I have that one and I think its pretty nice. I also know some guys who have the same one too and its working perfectly for them also(as perfect as external hdd can work) Also i heard in the store that it was the most selled hdd and it had very low percent of broken/returned hdd's. also the guy infront of me at the cash desk bought exactly the same external hdd.
