Okey, i need some help here. So, I'm deriving a new mod based on etpub, and I want to make it "on the community's taste", so it has to resemble etpro as closely as possible. In my previous post http://www.crossfire.nu/?x=journal&mode=item&id=35017 some people said either it's too hard to do, or it won't have success because it's not etpro. But what IS etpro, exactly? What are the features that make etpro different from etpub? I noticed the following keypoints:
- throwing knives, poison and other shit. Can be disabled in etpub by simple cvars.
- shooting your enemy for ages. This is a feature in etpub that modifies the hitboxes to make the more realistic (you don't get bodyshot if you miss a headshot), and that modifies the damage as a function of where you shoot. Can be disabled by simple cvars.
- b_tracers 0. In the new mod (not in etpub, but in etace) it's called cg_tracers, and it works.
- no hitsounds for grenades, airstrikes & stuff. Done already in etace.
- ETTV. Works out of the box with etpub. Some minor changes are still required to show the slave properly on the scoreboard and to give it higher bandwidth.
The other REAL things that need to be done are:
- changeable server configs
- cvar checks
- spawntimer
- class and team menus (do we really need them? probably not too difficult to be done anyway)
- shoutcaster support
Other things that ARE in etpub out of the box:
- team commands: pause, speclock, specinvite ( i think lock as well )
- stopwatch mode
- antilag and nice hitboxes: thank bani's contributions to etpub.
When I test-played with some friends in etpub, the first reaction one of them had was: "WTF? I cant disable the tracers?" And he kept on saying that till the end of the match. As far as I see, the two most important things left to do are the server configs, and the cvar checks.
What am I missing then? Why people keep saying etpub is no good for competition? And pls try not to say "aiming is different", because with g_dmg 0, g_hitboxes 0 and sv_maxRate 25000 I noticed no difference from etpro.
Now switching to the Serious mode: give us your cookbook list of ingredients missing from etpub. What do we have to add to it?

They hud modications are much greater in ETPro, the Antilag feels better in ETPro.
All round more professional feel I guess...

Seriously, go with your idea to etpro creators, anything else as competition mod unless its made by someone like arqon is load of crap imo.

furthermore, it has a HUD editing feature, so no need for b_alternateHud.
We'll investigate it further.

- no antiwarp, at least not on the server I tried
- hitsounds are laggy/flawed
Some other stuff you'll need (not sure what etpub has):
- mapscripts (compatible with etpro)
- certified configs
- disable XP promotions
- stickycharge
- fixed physics
- scripting (autoexec_ stuff)
- lots of bug/exploit fixes

the good thing about etpub is that it's opensource, and anyone can submit patches & stuff. one guy in our team only wants to contribute with code if it's realeased opensource. if we convince bani to realease etpro's source code, we could base our project on etpro.
That's the reason Bani once gave for not making ETPro open source iirc.

*Disable the man that tells you what to do (construct a comandpost etc)
*Bullettracer equal to 1
*Mapoverbrightbits equal to max 2
*Increase the firerate on all weapons (well be more spray but ;p)
*Be able to spam airstrikes/fireforeffects
*Make panza damage more, so riflenades are useless
