doesnt a tft have like a standard resolution, anything but that heightwidth looks crap~
Yup, native res will look better than forcing the lcd to scale an image.

Answer is HERE , quite funny tho. (used lot of time for that, so su)
what happend if you use:

seta r_customwidth "1024"
seta r_customheight "768"
seta r_mode "-1"

Have a LCD, and that LCD decided "you my man are gonna use r_mode 8 (1280x1024) whether you like it or not!
use 800*400 like all us poor peasants.........
I'm using 320x200
playing quake on my PDA :O
what is that bad about that res?
ive got 17'' ws and i play (when i play) with 1440*900
Don't ever use anythingelse than "r_mode -1" with a widescreen monitor.

Whether you can try this:

r_mode -1
r_customaspect 3
r_customwidth 1440
r_customheigth 900

or you stick to your present reso.
r_customwidth 1440
r_customheigth 900

is for 19" widescreen not 22"
Parent
but he asked for lower resolutions he can use...
Parent
i have 19" widescreen an i can use..

r_mode "-1"
r_customwidth "1440"
r_customheigth "900"

but what i use atm..

r_fullscreen "0"
r_mode 6" // = 1024*768
r_customwidth ""
r_customheigth ""
Gaming on a TFT is crap compared to a CRT.

Using the native resolution of the monitor usually gives the best result, but some monitors will run at 70 Hz @ lower resolutions (mine does, but I still prefer 1680*1050).

Capping @ 76 FPS for some reason looks horrible on my TFT compared to my CRT, but 125 FPS is acceptable. It also looks good with r_swapinterval 1, but that feels too sluggish for me.
I'm not too much into that hardware-cfg stuff, so I've got a question aswell:

i'm using a 22" widescreen & r_mode 4.

Trying r_mode 6 or 8 gives me horrible fps.

So, what exactly does r_mode -1 do? Are there any other settings I should adjust to the monitor? And could someone explain me the relation fps-hz-swapinterval-r_customheight in a few words so a noob might understand them? :< Thanks in advance.
