monitor + game problem

i start quake 3
monitor turns to "standby?!?!?!?" > all lights flash
game is running but i cant see it
i press console button and type /quit when i think menu has loaded
game exits
monitor turns back on
how to fix? system restore to previous day works.. but this happens sometimes.. not sure of cause and i dont want to restore it all the time

Refresh rate set itself to 144, thx for help those who mentioned it, back on 85 ^^

Also, check your Displayrefresh, saw when i made your rtcw cfg that it was on 125 :D bit high imo :p
-test it on another game, for instance if your desktop is 1024*768 run need for speed/fifa( or another game) in fullscreen with a different resolution
