you won't get 333 fps with that!
NOT! :DDD
Parent
the fairytale gone bad!
Parent
you cant have more than 125 fps, high pc is waste of money imo
Parent
unless of course you happen to play something other than ET...but nobody does that.
Parent

Its surely good enough for et.
What the hell graphics card is that?
Going also for a new puter, got some silly bonus from the company...

- Asus P5N-E
- Intel Q6600
- 4GB 800MHz DDR2
- GF8600 GTS 256MB (some silent model)
- 5x320GB, 1x250GBHD (2 x 2 disk raid-0, 2 backup disks)
- Antec P180 case, 500W PSU
- WinXP or Vista 64-bit versions
Ask them to get you a Geforce 8950 :D
Parent
why you need such a high GFX card, i get 200 fps with 5300 :|
Parent
People do other stuff besides ET, you know? :<

200 fps with a 5300... ???
Parent
yup :/ i can have stable 125 fps in maps like sd, b4, frostbite, and 200+ in some of the places there, in radar i have stable 40-76

btw sonata arctica just finished, listening to it atm, kinda n1
Parent
sonata arctica & ensiferum are like DF style, does thyrfieng like inflames?
Parent
After some consideration, I realized I don't have any real need for a faster card. If games start to feel slow, one can always buy another 8600 GTS and run them in SLI-mode. :)

If I went for anything else, it would be some Quadro FX-card. They are pretty awesome with 3DS Max... But the better Quadro's are just waaay overpriced.
Parent
ye but 8600 simply sucks, even a 7900 is better for most games
but i suppose you know that
anyway, nice pc you got there
and you can also upgrade vidcard later like you said
Parent
Agreed pretty much. The way I see the situation at the moment is this:

I could either go for some cheap and fast DX9 card (Radeon X1950XT, about 180e, or a used 7900-series card). How many DX10 titles are out anyway? The downside is, that I would need to buy a completely new card, when some killer DX10 game comes out.

Or then I could go for a cheap and okayish DX10 card (GF8600 GTS, about 190e) that runs current games pretty well, but isn't overpriced. When DX10-games start to come out and feel sluggish, I have the option to buy another similar card -- which will be very affordable then, since people will be ditching their old cards. Or switch to a newer midrange card, which will cost about 200 euros.

Dishing out 300-400 euros for a 8800 GTS/GTX seems like a bit of a waste at the moment, since I'm not a heavy gamer or anything, and a faster gaming card won't help me in my work.
Parent
get a core2 duo not a quad
and u got money left for a good gpu
Parent
No wai... I need the quad. :)

And besides, the difference between E6600 and Q6600 is something meaningless, like 40 euros.

EDIT: Ah well, you got me convinced. 8800 GTS it is -- 80 euros, who gives a shit. :p
