hdd problem in ET

about 1 week i have had a problem.
when i play ET for like 30-60minutes, suddenly HDD will start to "think" veeeeery much , light is allways ON and ET fps will go to like 0-10-15-0-15 and then ok for few seconds. but it will go worse and worse. only restart fixes it .
nothing running on background and no antivirus or scan doing its job. every service what i dont need is disabled and no malware/viruses in PC.

only thing i have notised is that punkbuster has somekind of service now. pnkbstrA and pnkbstrB running when playing ET.
does those files have something to do with it?

anyone else has this problem too??

laptop aint slow either. stable 125 everywhere.
core 2 duo t7400 , 1gb ddr , 7600go

thats called the pblag, have exactly the same thing as you described.

Same, my computer manages 125 steady and lately it stalls every 10-15s for a second or two. Sometimes the ping stays normal suggesting it's to do with the hard drive and sometimes it sky rockets and the fps drops as well :-\

nono, not pblag and not for "second or two" .
when it starts , it wont stop. lagomeeter goes allgreen and HDD light stais ON . screen freezes and FPS is 0 or 5-15 and moves sloooooowly. then after maybe 15 seconds, it goes to little bit better. fps goes up and hdd "thinks" less but soon it will start again.

exacly like e.g. viruscanner is scanning but its not!

Seems like my PC disease is doing a good job spreading, expect PC crashes soon.

jup, got it aswell. Supposed to be cuz of the pb update :/
Rly annoying, since it mostly happens when i try to flick my crosshair to a guy and it makes me freeze for a sec, so i completly miss the guy

ill go shoping today maybe. will change my 80gb 5400rpm 8mb to 160gh 7200rpm 8mb . dunno how it affect my batterylife but i don care :)

Download the following program:



http://www.evenbalance.com/downloads/pbsvc/pbsvc.exe

Open the program above and click the "Uninstall" button. This will remove the PnkBstrA.exe and PnkBstrB.exe service.

Some may need to rmove the registry entries.

Go to START --> RUN .. type regedit

search in these parts

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\Controlset001\Sevices look for PnkBstrA PnkBstrB and PnkBstrK .. just right click on the folder listed on the left and delete.

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\Controlset003\Services look for PnkBstrA PnkBstrB and PnkBstrK .. just right click on the folder listed on the left and delete.

We had the same problem with Americas Army and all other PB related games.

GL!

Also in C:\windows\system32\drivers is PnkBstrK.sys .. safe to delete.

Then go play.
