ET under linux

I managed to finally install sound (horray) now I need to make sound work in ET
I'm using Ubuntu 7.04
Can anyone tell me what I need to do for this to work properly?

Also, is it possible to run ETQW (retail) under linux (via wine? ) or something yet?

i would recommend you to use sdl for et on linux.

Nope, don't work.
Using Google I've noticed a few people has had this problem, but the suggestions they mention don't work for me -_-

Ask #nixCoders, its no joke.
They know how to fix it, im sure, just connect to their IRC server (freenode or smth?) and join their irc-chan.

the sdl patch for et is from nixcoders, this guy is right!

for me it works pretty well.

Use

echo "et.x86 0 0 direct" > /proc/asound/card0/pcm0p/oss
echo "et.x86 0 0 disable" > /proc/asound/card0/pcm0c/oss

in a startup script

that unlocking the dev, but if you want to listen to some nice musik and playing et as well you can only hear one of the two programms output.

edit: as well only root can attach that.

mh, for me only one at the same time worked. then i was using the sdl-stuff and everthing was fine. :o

SDL is loaded in the same way as a hack though right? :P

Geez, I remember the days when I'd get accused of cheating just for having [linux] in /cheaters, nevermind a ???

dunno, as far as i know, it only put the outpot from the oss device to the alsa one. so no cheating there...

When I typed that in terminal and then loaded ET no sounds happened.
I tried to go through the SDL setup too but that don't work @:<

I typed /copy pasted:

sudo su

echo "et.x86 0 0 direct" > /proc/asound/card0/pcm0p/oss
echo "et.x86 0 0 disable" > /proc/asound/card0/pcm0c/oss

Still nothing.
In console while in ET though, I get this
