Not another Linux journal

So yesterday I fucked up my xorg.conf and ended up reinstalling Ubuntu.
I want to get my MX518 buttons working.
Following from the tutorial on how to install ET properly in linux, I'm wondering how hard is it to get it to work and is it best to backup my xorg.conf first before modifying it?

At least it was something to do with Linux, I would have just posted:

"Use Windows, as you're clearly just using Linux for a novelty factor."

i dont know why people are using linux... its like they dont have anything better to do than configuring this os 24/7 xD

So that we don't have to post 40 fucking journals asking for programs that will work on Linux when we can just use Windows instead? And please, only retards get spyware when they click on competitions like:

"CONGRATULATIONS YOU ARE THE 999,999,999TH MEMBER TO VIST THIS SITE, CLICK TO SEE WHAT YOU HAVE WON"

Most people that use Windows (and have the ability/know-how to use Linux) have streamlined Windows disks with all the programs/drivers they need as soon as the new Windows has been installed.

If you want to program for a living sure, install Linux on a laptop. It's the best OS I've used when trying to write code. For games/leisure, just use Windows, it's so much easier than trying to find programs and half-arsed crappy ports.

(Btw Zodiac, the last two paragraphs weren't aimed at you, they where aimed at Panda).

About games on Linux; most games does not work on Linux indeed. But if you get a game that was also made for Linux and it's the only game you play, why not get Linux?
If you got more games you want to play, just get a dualboot.

I'm using Linux Kubuntu Feisty Fawn 7.04 on my laptop, because it's just easy in use.
I don't like Gentoo at all. Kubuntu is just like Windows and even my mom can work with it! On Gentoo, she can't! :D

On my pc I'm only using Windows. Some applications what is necassery for my work just doesn't work on Linux. Also not via Wine or any other Virtual PC software :-(.

Insane uptime record :)

I turn off my computer when I leave/sleep.

But before format (I did it to apply nLited windows installation) I had about 2,5 weeks uptime, and would be better, but I had to add a new HDD drive.

Get known to linux, try, try a bit harder and it will work easier then windows and you certainly won't be configuring 24/7

google for evdev + mx518
worked for me.
First fiddle around with xorg.conf, then remap the buttons with xmodmap
