hey,
i'm about to get me a new HardDiskDrivev .. i just don't know which one.
i have 4 WesternDigital hdd's in my pc. i must say i am satisfied with them.
i already payed a WesternDigital Raptor 1500AHFD 150GB hdd,
(10000rpm,16mb cache, windowed case), but as it seems it's performance isn't really good compared to it's price (190€ and up). so i've asked some others. i got recommended to get me a Samsung Spinpoint T166 hdd (from 320GB to 500GB with 16mb cache). the 400GB edition costs like 70€ .. alot féckin cheaper than the raptor, but ofcourse only 7200rpm, slower than the raptor.
so i really can't decide and need some hints :) ..
and no, i won't get me any maxtor, seagate, hitachi (ibm .. fuck them) or others.
only western digital or samsung ..
discuss !

though, both have 16mb cache, the spinpoint is even abit faster in other stuff. and well, the raptor one has a windowed case ^^
I have 500gb sata now, i'm very happy with it. I was first considering a raptor, but the speed you really don't feel it. On booting windows xp it maybe makes 0.5 second...
So i would take a 500 gb seagate (seagate = silence). costs less then 100€.
It's just my opinion, your free to do what you want ;)!
hf
are you really sure? .. i had a seagate, it broke (ofc because i fell and had it in my hand .. xD ) .. but i heard bad stuff about seagate.
and yeah, i have a 500GB western digital, sata-2 .. im also happy with it, no doubt. and 3 western digital ata-100 hdd's .. also satisfied with it.
and yea, i also doubt it's really noticable with the raptor, ofcourse if you use raid1, you will fuckin notice it. but not as a signle hdd.
i wouldn't do it for the speed, you barely feel it. I have seagate all my live, if you give them enough cooling, they will never break.
* Enough cooling = normal cooling
no matter if seagate is from WD or verse visa ..
wd = western digital
Can't fault it, great value for money.

it's dutch, but you can understand the pictures i hope:)
Dont go near a raptor with a barge poll, marginal performance increase compared to a ridiculous price = mug.
