I have problem with CoD4
I installed demo, started it, went into main menu, changed some settings, apply them, game kinda vid_restarted, went back to main menu and crashed to desktop
i started it again and game offered safe mode, picking yes/no doesnt matter as it crashes when main menu appers
i reinstalled it and now cant even get into settings as game crashes when main menu appears

Your problem is not with "iw3sp.exe". That's the demo executable. Chances are, your problem is with a file called "mssmp3.asi". It has something to do with the sound handling. Not sure what it does, but apparently, it's not necessary to run the game. I re-named the file, and I don't get the crash anymore. Presumably, you can delete it, but I simply chose to re-name it just in case.
Go into your CoD4 Demo installation folder. Go into the "miles" sub-folder. It should look something like:
c:\Program Files\Electronic Arts\C0D4 Demo\miles
Locate the file: "mssmp3.asi"
Rename it: "mssmp3.bak"
Run the game and see if that solves your problem. Hope it help
try this
I had the same exact problem. But with a bit of trial and error, I fixed it.

but who cares about gfx anyway :---P
the details of your focused eyes when u are zoomed and all the guys next to you are blurry and all that stuff, and the awesome lighteffects and everything make me look forward to cod4...
etqw is also quite fun but COD4>ETQW
maybe in mp it will be better
