external hdd question

lo,

I just got an external hdd (western digital elements 500 gig) but I have one problem,
when I move a file of 7gig it says "not enough space" or something, while I have 449 gig left...

Is there maybe a maximum file size? or dno?

1 question: are external hdd as fast as internal?
What are the negative points?
external is normally slower...
It's not that good, because its not directly connected to your motherboard or something and it need a cable :)

u can use e-sata to transfer files, looks like this http://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bild:ESATA_slotblech.jpg

and ntfs is unlimited filesize? and when I format will I lose all my files then?
because? :o
Check the file system of the hdd (right click -> preferences)
If its NTFS, i dont have a clue
If its fat32, your fucked, because maximum filesize is 4 Gb there, so you would need to reformat your hdd to NTFS.
No, he's not, because Windows and a bunch of other disk management programs allow you to convert the partition(s) to NTFS without data loss.

just format with ntfs and it works
ge moet u schijf eerst formatteren, steek ze in, zet ze op en dan deze computer > rechtermuisknop > Formatteren...
pas dan kan je data erop zetten :)
