resolutions

is it true that having 640x480 doesnt give you the best fps if the game is having to downscale textures?

i use 800x600 in all games but some people say that 1024x768 is better in UT3 as the textures are made for this resolution or something

so should i be using 1024x768??

sorry if its a stupid question, i just never thought of it this way.. always thought lower = better.

thanks (i got 7800gtx 256mb)

They are retards and you shouldnt listen to them, the lower the resolution the better it is.
you are the retard here

make a timedemo with rmode 3 and rmode 8, you'll get more fps at 8

I dont care about timedemo.

I think it depends on the age of the game and the engine of the game
depends on game engine.

4 is ment 2 be best for close range in ET. 8 for long, so 6 is best for medium
depends on what u use on ur desk... for example me using 1280*1024 on desk and if i use 800*600 in game my fps drops down... if i use 1280*1024 in the game too my fps seems nice... but as TosspoT said it can depend on different gameengines too
Depends how the engine implements the graphics, for UT3 I'm not sure, since I've not read any documentation.
@ cs 640*480 roxXXXX!
Too bad you dont know girls, it follows that ...
Textures in 3D games are mapped onto polygons (i.e. scaled, translated and rotated) regardless of the resolution, and they're not made for a specific resolution.
I get like 40 FPS on UT3 @ 1024x768, it's about the same as 800x600 tbh.

I play at 800x600 so I can get 100Hz refresh. ^.^
