english sky BB?

ok hallo, getting rid of tiscali and dad demands that we get sky because he wants SKY + TV. I really want BT but he says no :(.

Anywayz any of you got SKY BB and are the speeds good?

youll need a bt line anyway to get the broadband free with sky. and heres a tip not often known about the sky deal m8, if you live miles from a bt exchange and your bt line hasnt been updated in a while, youll get like 1-2 meg maximum, not the 8 meg as stated...
get virgin if its in your area, better broadband, fone and if your dad wants something better than sky + , the virgin high definition v+ box is a lot better and actually cheaper to buy as well as the monthly running costs.

For the TV, I've sky at home and virgin at uni and Sky is far far better.

As for internet I prefer virgin

haha mate, honestly. if you have any electrical item in your home that is capable of recieving television or sattelite broadcasts you have to have a license :(

a lot of wall mounted tv's require seperate tuners to be able to recieve a signal

yer , i get you, and know exactly what you mean, and its utter bollocks that the bbc think they can rape you for the 130 odd quid a year for basically NOT watching bbc, they dont care, if you have a freeview box, tv card, broadband installed even, ANY (and i mean ANY) way to watch broadcasts, you gotta get a shitty license. piss but true

ye well i live in north west england, no idea where the BT exchange link / or whatever you call it is.

:s, i just want a nice inet, nice speeds, besides tiscali is shit, it can't even give me 48 ping in english servers :/, well sometimes :D.

Sky broadband isn't too bad i don't think, since they run it on the easynet network with local loop unbundling, afaik its a decent enough broadband service for the cost

ok evo, i dont agree. ive had both. skyhd and the internet service which i got rid of after 3 months as it was absolutely awfull. i never got above 2 meg with it :/

cable v+ box = £150 + take top package and you get the monthly subscription free. (high definition )

sky hd box = £300 + 10 quid a month even with the top tier package. agreed sky is easier to navigate etc, but cmon , its not that different. i know virgin buy most of their channel from sky, but somehow manage to give better deals than sky? wierd?

20 meg broadband cant be compared to adsl evo, youre right, thats why im saying if you can get virgin in your area, why not go for it?

Did you have any other ADSL provider other than Sky to compare it with? If you had better speeds with other providers then I have proof for my dad to not goto them :|

Most British ADSL providers suck ass.

i had bt as well, and frankly, i just cant stand the instability of it, the regularity of packet drops and random router rebooting is just shite. cable all the way...
