Help: Quadcore

As I had a litte "discussion" with some of my mates who think that an Intel Quad Core processor has like 4x3000 MHz = 12 GHz...

Isnt that total bullshit? I mean you can't just multiplicate it, right?

Plz help :x (tell me why not)

:DddDD;:Ddd
u can see it liek this, the 4 cores can (not exactly but care) do the same work as 1 cpu @ 12 Ghz but that doesnt mean they are doing 12 ghz, thats like Boom in 0.5 secs
there is this thing called effective frequency
explain plz =(

what your friends say is true in theory, but its a bit more complicated than just that.

i suggest you read http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Multicore_processor

ty =) should have read that earlier maybe thx

That is total bs indeed.
its just 4 cores @ 3ghz
its just 4 cores @ 3ghz, like you have 4 CPU's

so your CPU can do 4 tasks at the same time on 3,0 GHz
Its shit for gaming tbh , its only 1 task and wont need 3 or more cores , 2 at max at this time ...
