Illustrator problem

I try to open an .ai-file, but it compains this skit. When I hit "continue" it opens the file, but I can´t do anything with it. Yarwf, what to do?

u are over rgb and the file is in cmyk. try pressing ctrl+y before opening the file (that works in photoshop).

Nope, it just changes the preview mode to outline mode. And I am on CMYK. Could this be caused by using cs3? My friend sended that file to me, I am supposed to use/modify it for our project. Maybe I should check what version he is using.

Ask him to check the exact color profile he used (there are several cmyk's), and then before opening that file, setup that colorprofile urself.

Also, make sure you do: Edit>Colour Settings>Colour Management Policies>CMYK - Set to Preserve
Embedded Profiles.
