Notebook - Vista --> Linux

hey guys.

got a new notebook for working only. the bad thing is: vista preinstalled so the system doesn't really work fast enough. now i want to format an install linux. now i need some hints which distribution is the best for working purposes only (writing, simple internet browsing etc.).

and do i have to take care of special drivers or sth?

system:

AMD Turion™ 64 X2 TL-58 1,90 GHz
1024 MB (2 x 512 MB) RAM
160 GB SATA HDD
ATI Radeon™ X1200 up to 128 MB shared memory

thx

ubuntu imo
or kubuntu

(but i use vista with a sempron 3400+ and it's enough fast^^ first check the power managment!)
xunbuntu
I'd suggest Ubuntu or derivatives of it (e.g. Kubuntu or Xubuntu), OpenSUSE or Fedora. Haven't tried Fedora yet, but of Ubuntu and OpenSUSE I prefer Ubuntu because the install files fit on one CD and the package management is more intuitive than that of OpenSUSE. In general, the distributions are all quite easy to use and install, and if things go according to plan, you won't even have to touch anything in order to get driver support for your hardware, it's all just set-up by the distro.
Ubuntu / Fedora / OpenSUSE / PClinuxOS 2007
