The deal is good though, don't get me wrong. It's worth it if you just want a laptop that you can have the odd game of FM on.
But if you want something thats going to run Crysis then best look for something with a little more umph.
Was just wondering what this spec was like for the price.
I would consider that a good deal!
This one however, I got what I consider an XPS laptop for the price of an average laptop, and it plays EVERYTHING brilliantly. I play CoD4 on default config without a hitch, Quakewars a doddle and the oldschools games ofc without error.
Battery life depending on usage is up to 5 hours, which is the most impressive part and you MUST get the intelproset wireless (dell make it optional) its not only great on battery life but also has incredible range and stability, I shoutcasted the EC final off a crappy hotel wireless without buffer.
Last laptop I had overheating issues (mainly cause i cracked the case and fucked up the aerodynamics) this one is cool in every sense of the word.
TOSSPOT FIVE THUMBS UP (out of 2)
(I've since convinced 3 people to buy these and they're all satisfied customers)
If you've any questions about laptops or brands let me know, I've used nearly all the high end laptops on the market at gaming events
I came to the same conclusion about the xps thing, the only difference between the inspiron and the 15 inch xps is the graphics memory; obviously it's thinner and looks nicer, but I couldn't give a shit. On the battery life, did you get the 9 cell or the 6 cell? 5 hours seems amazing for any laptop, was this wireless on + full brightness or were you power saving?
Did you get vista with yours or xp?
Seeing as you likely wont have either of those problems, go Vista.
What the vostro is, is quite confusing. Its supposedly Dell's answer to the touchpad which is the most popular business laptop because you cannot break those things and this black case is supposedly reinforced with something, I have scratched mine yet and my old one was scratched to fuck.
However i read an article that said its built like an XPS they just wont certify that its good for games (logical if you look how much they charge for an XPS).
5 hours = without wireless, full brightness - just word processing or smth simple
4 hours = wireless, internet usage and nothing special
3 hours = film svideo outputting to tv and torrent going
Yes 9 cell
Do you mean the vostro is built like an xps in terms of the components or in terms the chasis? I guess I'll go for the inspiron, £640 seems like too good a deal to pass up; looking around anyway, it seems like anything else with graphics on par is atleast a few hundred more, everything being equal.
I'll be plugged in most of the time, taking a laptop to lectures generally just makes you look like a twat in physics, no fast way to enter in equations =o/.
Isn't the main thing with the xps line is that it's premium, the support etc is better and the machines look nicer? It almost idiotic considering dell owns alienware too.
They offer the 9 cell batt and pro wireless on inspiron, make sure u get um!
Whatever I got would be an upgrade from the laptop I'm on at the minute, I dropped it so now not only does the fan sound like a hoover, it also runs idle at about 60 degrees. I tried to play teewars yesterday, instant reboot.
Oh, and how's cod4, competition wise?
I've been away for 2 weeks so i'm super shit again :(
I haven't played anything seriously in a long while, the nearest I came was playing 1v1 quakeworld on the uni LAN with a friend, but he doesn't know how to bunnyhop and kept asking "How r u hitting me!?" when we played midair =o/.
Is Cod4 similar to the previous ones or has the speed / aiming etc changed a lot?
Its proven to be extremely popular, the concept is all the same something is just a bit funner, cant explain it
tho , ofcourse , u cant play all the newest game @ maximum grafics - if u want that - buy a pc.
in ET u will never see less than 125fps with this laptop.
Does anyone ever see the difference between medium and high on most games? I'm sure the perfomance hit is usually never worth it.
that laptop will run cod4 125fps no problem (not max gfx)... but then who uses max gfx in competition or atall? people try max gfx once then tone them down since it obstructs view in most games
but if you want to play games all day make sure you got a desktop pc for all the problems people mentioned :)
GT is the better one.
and 8400-series is pretty crap
only GT (high-end) and GS (medium-end , mostly for companies , families)
only 8800gtx can be classed as highend mobile gpu :)
GTX is ultrahighend :)
:)
GS mid-end
GTX ultra high end
And those with turbo cache only are low-end
