Babyshambles vs Dirty Pretty Things
Tonights fight is between the 2 line after the death of the legendary Libertines.
Peter Doherty created Babyshambles and Carl Barat started the Dirty Pretty Things.
The Libertines > All, but these bands both bring something nice from them.
Background infoBabyshambles are a British band formed by Peter Doherty as a side-project to
(and later full time after departing) The Libertines.
The band's first single, Babyshambles, was released in April 2004 on High Society Records.
Fewer than 1,000 copies of the CD and 7" were released and both can now be found changing hands
for more than L50 on internet auction sites such as eBay.
The band underwent several changes of line-up before finally stabilising during Summer 2004 with
Doherty on vocals, Patrick Walden on guitar, Gemma Clarke (who has now left the band to re-join
The Suffrajets) on drums and Drew McConnell on bass.
During September and October 2004 Babyshambles embarked on a UK tour culminating in two sold-out
shows at the London Scala. Despite claims that the band were only touring to raise money to
support Doherty's drug habit the tour sold-out and received critical acclaim. The band's second
single Killamangiro was released November 29 2004 on Rough Trade Records and reached number 8 in
the UK charts. The band embarked on another tour in December amid increasing concern about
Doherty's drug use. During a gig in Blackpool the band walked off stage as it became clear Doherty
was too intoxicated to perform and a riot broke out at the London Astoria when Doherty failed to
turn up for a gig.
In January 2005, Gemma Clarke quit the band, citing disagreements with the management who she
considered irresponsible for failing to address Doherty's obvious drug problem. She was replaced
with Adam Ficek, Patrick Walden's former bandmate in The White Sport. In February 2005 Doherty,
along with fellow musician Alan Wass, was arrested on suspicion of assault and blackmail. It was
alleged that Doherty assaulted Max Carlish, a documentary maker, in a London hotel, a charge he
strenuously denied. Carlish had made a documentary about Doherty, from which clips were used for
the channel 4 documentary 'Stalking Pete Doherty'. After allegedly assaulting Carlish, Doherty
spent several nights in prison until L150,000 bail could be raised. After being released on bail
Doherty spent several weeks in a recording studio in Wales working on Babyshambles' debut album.
All charges against him were dropped in April 2005.
On October 1, 2005, the Babyshambles tour bus was raided by police. Doherty was charged on suspicion
of possession of class A drugs and bailed until December, although Doherty claims that the substances
were related to his Naltrexone implant.
Work on Babyshambles' debut album continued throughout April and May 2005 with Mick Jones, who
worked with Doherty on the producing of The Libertines' albums. The album, Down in Albion was
released on 14th November, having been leaked onto the internet on 19th October. It came 10th in
the Radio 1 Album Charts. The single Albion was released on the 28th November and came 8th in the
Radio 1 Single Charts. Another single Fuck Forever was released on August 15th, reaching #4 on
the UK Singles Chart.
Peter Doherty appeared on Newsnight at the end of 2005, and played a few secret and personal gigs
to fans at the end of the year. At the start of 2006 the band announced that they would play 3 small
club shows in London, Sheffield and Stoke. To fans' surprise, Babyshambles performed at the first of
the London dates without guitarist Patrick Walden. Instead of Walden, Doherty played guitar at the
London date. The band have since made an announcement that Walden quit the band to pursue other
projects. Walden was replaced by Mick Whitnall.
December 2006 saw the release of a new EP, featuring The Blinding EP, the July single
'Beg, Steal & Borrow' and new single 'I Love You (But You're Green)'.
On January 18th, 2007 it was announced that the band signed a "long term" album deal with
Parlophone.
Babyshambles released their 2nd album, Shotter's Nation, on October 1, 2007. It was produced by
Stephen Street (Morrissey, Blur) and features Bert Jansch on guitar on the last track Lost Art
Of Murder.

Best song, in my oppinion: "Delivery"
Babyshambles - Delivery lyric
By, oh by, the way of an explanation
Cast adrift of the shores of shotter's nation
I had a lick, it caved my skull in like a brick
Oh now, what use am I to anyone
I'm fucked, forlorn, frozen beneath the summer
Don't sing along or you'll get what I got
So, here comes a delivery
Straight from the heart of my misery
So comes a delivery
straight from the heart to you
Yeah you, now you, now you, you finally left school
Oh what on earth do you intend to do
See if you can take the man go down town
Where all, you skins and mods, you get together
Make pretend it's 1969 forever
Find a girl, have a drink, have a dance and play
This song might deliver me
Straight from the harshness of misery
It's the songs of delivery, straight from my heart to you
Yes, here comes a delivery
Straight from the heart of my misery
And the song that delivers me, straight from my heart to you
So comes a delivery
Straight from the heart of the misery
Here comes a delivery
Straight from the heart to you

Background info
Dirty Pretty Things is the band fronted by former member of The Libertines, Carl Barât.
The formation of the band was announced in September 2005, after The Libertines had split
up in 2004 due to a falling out between Barât and Pete Doherty. Barât had done some work
with Vertigo Records and had previously revealed that his new project was with the label.
Didz Hammond announced he was leaving the Cooper Temple Clause [1] to join the band
alongside ex-Libertines drummer Gary Powell and guitarist Anthony Rossomando, who had
filled in for Doherty following his departure from the Libertines.
The name was shared by Barât's club nights currently taking place in various venues across
London, which now assumes the name "Bright Young Things" to avoid confusion. Dirty Pretty
Things played their first shows in October 2005 in Italy and Paris, France.
Initially, the choice of name caused some troubles. A four-piece band from Salisbury had
been playing as "Dirty Pretty Things" since early January of 2005, claiming to have already
copyrighted the name in the UK [2]; the two groups ended up coming to an agreement over the
name. An Australian band had also been playing under that name since 2003, though since
opted to change it. The band were helped out on their previous tour by The Hurricanes.
An Edinburgh based band, that are playing the circuit.
Dirty Pretty Things began recording their first album in Los Angeles, California, with
high-profile producer Dave Sardy (producer of the Oasis album Don't Believe the Truth),
and in Glasgow, Scotland with producer Tony Doogan.
The first track of the band's to be released on the CD format was "You Fucking Love It"
which was made available on a free CD with the April 1, 2006 issue of NME entitled "NME
and MTV2 present Best Newbands Showcase 2006".
The band's debut album, entitled Waterloo to Anywhere, was released on May 8, 2006 reaching #3
on the music charts and receiving critical approval. The first single (and first official
band release) from the album, "Bang Bang, You're Dead", was released on April 24, 2006 and
reached #5 in the singles chart in its first week of sales. The second single was "Deadwood",
released on 10 July 2006 and got to #20 in the singles chart.
They toured extensively in the UK during the first half of 2006. Their setlist has comprised
most of the songs from the debut album and selected b-sides, along with a few Libertines songs
(usually "Death on the Stairs", "France", and "I Get Along"). They played their first American
show at the SXSW festival in Texas. They played several festivals in the UK in the summer of
2006, including the Isle of Wight Festival, Wireless Festival, T in the Park, and they played
at the Irish festival Oxegen. The band supported the Red Hot Chili Peppers at their concerts
in Ipswich and Coventry in July 2006.
On May 13, 2006 Carl and Didz appeared on the popular football show Soccer AM. The pair appeared
to be drunk following a night out after a gig in Wolverhampton, causing fellow guest
Noel Gallagher to compare Barat's slightly incoherent rambling to that of his brother Liam.
'Wondering' was the third single released from Waterloo to Anywhere on September 25, 2006 and
reached #34.
On a holiday in Taipei, Carl broke his collarbone (he has fallen from a motorbike during a
drinking session), thus giving the impression that DPT would have to cancel upcoming dates in
North America. However, the band recruited the help of Josh Hubbard, the guitarist from Hull
band The Paddingtons, to play guitar while Carl's injury heals. Barat, sans guitar, appeared
on stage to raucous applause from the massive crowd - his arm in a sling in Edinburgh's Corn
Exchange on August 28, 2006.
On Thursday 21st September 2006 Carl mentioned he liked how it felt not playing guitar and may
not not do it again; however, later that night in Belfast he again picked up his guitar for a
gig in the Mandela hall.
On 16th October 2006 the band released a dvd 'Puffing On a Coffin Nail' featuring over 2 and a
half hours of concert footage and documentaries.
On 25th October 2006 Carl appeared as a special guest at Paul Weller's set during the Electric
Proms, duetting on Peacock Suite and In the City.
The band are currently preparing songs for their second album.
Dirty Pretty Things have been confirmed as supporting Muse at the Wembley Stadium gig on the
16th June. Other supports include The Streets and Rodrigo Y Gabriela[2].

Best song, in my oppinion: "Deadwood"
Dirty Pretty Things - Deadwood lyric
You got the world boy
This all you make it?
You had the choice lad
You wouldn't take it
The oldest charm
Only the best for you
And the years of my life,
Some they were so good
But now and again I feel
I was a coward
Are the holes in my soul
In tatters for all these tears
Well you don't see it that way
A way, a way
We'll have it today
The dancing ones they really mean it
But something boy,
Something's gonna change
A way, a way
You've got it they say
How do they know
When they've never seen it?
And what will you do
When they forget your name?
Well you'll up and get another one
Don't give me that face
I know when I should live in disgrace
Not dig up the deadwood
I knew this place was never the place for me
And of the years that rolled by
Yeah some were so good
But now I know that
You were the coward
The holes in your soul
In tatters for all these years
But you can't see it that way
A way, a way
We'll have it today
The dancing ones they really mean it
And mark my words
Something's gonna change
A way, a way
You've got it they say
But how do they know
When they've never seen it?
And what will you do
When they forget your name?
Well you'll up and get another one
A way, a way
We'll have it today
The dancing ones they really mean it
But something boy
somethings gonna change
A way, a way
You've got it today
But how do they know
When theyve never seen it?
And what will you do
When they forget your name?
Well you'll up and get another one
In my oppinion the winner is Babyshambles...with Delivery from the new album, its easy bash.
One of the best Indie Rock song outta here. Make your vote below!
Babyshambles: 1 Dirty Pretty Things: 3
Though I dont have a clue who they are the songs i heared from babyshambles just sucked so hard, i doubt it can be worse.
but still Pete > all
FACT!
Howerver Carl Barat is underrated, DPT have some amazing songs, but neither will ever compare to the Libs
Babyshambles have Pete Doherty, a great lyricist, but I'm not too fond of their sound (even though they got some good songs).
Libertines are/were perfect. Both albums are awesome.
So: Libertines >>> Dirty Pretty Things > Babyshambles
