Why blame Poland? It's a smart move to get free support from the USA. Blame the countries that host USA nuclear wepons rather than just interceptor missiles. Such as my own country, Italy.
I blame them because in spite of a report giving Iran the green-light, they still went ahead with this paranoia-fueled pre-emptive 'shield' for the sake of getting some favours in return, money is power. I thought Kaczynski was the pro-American.
You failed, so did BBC. They will still negotiate.
Polish voters would kill them all if they had agreed without any conditions (no, it's not like we want it, because we 'LOVE' USA, if someone thinks like that - must be an idiot). BUT. Why shouldn't we agree if they would give us something... good? Just wait. Not listen to the BBC or some other lames.
They want (the most important things atm) Patriots and the... (I don't know how exactly call it in english) contract about the national security between USA and Poland, same as for example UK has. So atm it's not as close as people think.
You've missed my point. Your initial sentence suggested that it's not a certainty, whereas the only uncertainty is how much Poland will get in return.
It's pretty obvious that Poland is doing this for reasons other than 'USA loving', that doesn't make it right though, given the reasoning behind the shield and what it's intended use is.
It's not only about it. They can agree without anything, but it's about winning the votes for the president in 3 years (the prime minister will probably take part) and about Russia (as you probably know, they are one of the most important importer/exporter for us). As I said, the opposition, medias and voters would eat them, because that was one of the most important things in their programm - to NOT agree without good gifts ;).
Our last prime minister was doing anything because of 'love'. Anyway, that was about people who live here too.
I think we are in the half of the way. We care about this ally, but USA finally has to prove that it's not one way friendship.
Coming from a guy who invaded a country only out of economical reasons, who keeps funding a nuclear power in the Middle East and who might be the dumbest president in the world after Hugo Chavez I find this highly ironical.
Didn't they once say that this 'shield' is quite useless since it's not working too good?
And why would Iran or NK attack Europe while Israel and SK or Japan respectively would be more logical?
The US has tried so many other countries and it was only a matter of time before a nation "gave in". You can't really blame Poland, the pressure must have been immense from the US.
I'm just glad it wasn't nukes but still, doesn't leave me with a warm fuzzy feeling inside my tummy. :(
