ingame also 1680x1050
i have samsung 2232bw and 1680x1050 is its native resolution...but ET looks so weird in that res...Dont like it.
Parent
really?

i have never enjoyed playing et more since i have this laptop.
everything else feels weird.

i'll upload a screenshot of my game

edit:

here's the screenshot (for some reason my gamma is darker then normal when i take screenshots, so imagine this, but lighter :] )

it's fov 110

Parent
ye, it's smth like that...other games are fine at native resolution, but old games looks weird, just like et...maybe because r_mode isnt "natural"
Parent
aye maybe
Parent
btw...nice laptop u have there
Parent
tiz ok :p

specs @ profile ;]

have you tried setting your fov to the appropiate value? Newer games use vertical based fov settings, so you see more on the edge like you should, ET however, doesn't.

http://www.widescreengamingforum.com/fovcalc.php

I used fov 90 @ crt, which converts to fov 100.39487232 @ 1680x1050.
Parent
so u think its better to play with 1680x1050 r_mode -1 60hz, than 1280x1024 r_mode 8, 75hz...i know that hz doesnt matter that much but still...and there is some weird thing when I have 1680x1050, when i'm shooting at enemy, i see some kind of grey color, like a lil bit of smoke...although i think it's textures...dunno. could u send me ur graph settings for 1680x1050 res @pm

and btw...I have fov changer for 105 and 90, and with this calculator it gives 114 and 100 . shall i just convert 105 since i'm using it most of the time and keep 90, or convert both
Parent
Well, you could abuse your new found widescreen by keeping one at 90 and converting the 105, so you have imba-zoom compared to everyone on CRT.
Parent
ye, so i ll convert both. what about the rest
Parent
cause it 60Hz max. at this resolution.
Parent
probably because of that ye...
Parent
Samsung Syncmaster 206BW 20,1 Widescreen
1680x1050 ingame
fov 105
LG Flatron L226WTQ [1680x1050x60hz :XD]
fov 100 (= 90 at 4:3)
weird because of 60 hz =[
i have belinea 19" @ 1440*900.

and 1024*768, if i play at a widescreen res i dont hit people its fucking wierd
idd :b

i'm using r_mode 6 also
Parent
I played with 800x600 for a while, but trust me, it's worth getting used to native res.
Parent
yeah i want to i just cant hit people!!!! and the res was the reason i bought this tft
Parent
i have Samsung Syncmaster 226bw 22" Widescreen which is 16:10 aspect ratio
and i use 1280x1024 cuz i cant see as much with widescreen resolution and it kinda feels wierd.

fov 95
wtf, you can see MORE with a widescreen resolution... that's the whole point...
Parent
no you cant :) it just crops from up and down.
Parent
then increase your fov...

http://www.widescreengamingforum.com/fovcalc.php

that tool calculates so that you have the exact same vertical fov, eg, it's the exact same as your old resolution, just with a little more on the sides

newer games, eg cod2, do it automatically... ET doesn't however.
Parent
well, then you do see more with a widescreen

the same amount of information is shown, but with a widescreen it has a larger display-area

compare it to a fictive 1x1 resolution. the same amount of info would be shown, but it would get jammed together in a much smaller area.
Parent
well yes it just stretches it to fit the screen
Parent
so i was correct! and you two just got pwnt!
Parent
well no

read my post again.

what i tried to explain was:
the same stuff gets shown (it stretches) but i was talking about having a widescreen cfg and showing that on a normal screen.

it will get pressed together so a widescreen shows the same but 'bigger'
Parent
i was and i am talking about to see more or not to see more with widescreen resolution and nothing else and im still correct as my screenshots proves.
Parent
I use r_customheight 1024 and r_customwidth 1600. I used to use r_mode 6 but everything seemed too "squashed". When I changed to those custom settings, it felt a bit better.

I have a Samsung 226BW.
its easier to shoot fat models than thin models 8D
Parent
I'm sure it is, it just hurt my eyes.
Parent
Fat models that are completely out of proportion, along with your mouse. I checked your screenshots, but you obviously didn't read what I said.
Parent
everyone using m_pitch!=0.022 has disproportionate mouse movement :]
and disproportionate image isn't that bad too, u need just to get used to it
Parent
i didnt want to or need to cuz i won again. if id increase my fov it wouldnt be the same anymore.
Parent
Yes it would. It would be EXACTLY how it does it in CoD2. CoD2 increases your fov automatically when you play with widescreen, it's supposed to.

Blame Carmack for creating the Q3 engine with horizontal fov instead of vertical fov, but it's right. You didn't win, sorry mate.

Quote by John Carmack"On a normal 4:3 aspect ratio screen, a 90 degree horizontal field of view gives a 75 degree vertical field of view. If you keep the vertical fov constant and run on a wide screen, you get a 106 degree horizontal fov.

Because we specify fov with the horizontal measurement, you need to change fov when going into or out of a wide screen mode. I am considering changing fov to be the vertical measurement, but it would probably cause a lot of confusion if "fov 90" becomes a big fisheye.

Good luck arguing against that...
Parent
fuck you. i win. IT WOULDNT BE THE 95FOV!!! i should need to make new configs. SO I WIN!!=!==!!=! i cant get as less visible with notwidescreen as i can with widescreen. pwnt

OR WHAT IF I USE 120FOV!
Parent
Widescreen sux..
I'didnt as you if it rox or sux, I asked guys who _have_ them to post their resolutions, if you don't have anything to say about related topic rather shut up.
Parent
Anyone got a widescreen config?
Where could I see my resolution, I'm playing at a 19" wide by the way
rightclick on your desktop

one of the tabs should say the properties of your screen
Parent
I'm actually have problems with my config at the moment setting a custom resolution. When I put it in my config, it just fucks up, closes ET and brings up the ET console. If I do it in game, it's fine and nothing fucks up.

Weird shits.
You have to put r_mode -1 for custom res.
Parent
That's what it will be, cheers.
