Geforce 8500 or 8800

so...im kinda cheap in money, but i do care about performance, is it worth buying 8500? every one in isr saying 8500 is decent and 8800 is too new and stuff, shall i just buy 8500?

8500 is shit for the money, just cause it's 8 series doesnt mean it's decent. It's between 7600GS and 7300GT. If you want cheap performance buy an older card, not a new card that performs like old cards.

but i want a good performance, but accodring to my father 8800 is too high for pcs in isr and sometimes can cause troubles, or something, so im kinda in trouble :/

8400 and 8500 is total crap. First decent card of this series is 8600 GT/GTS. But I would prefer a 8800 GT for about 200€. This card is just awesome.

8600M GT is used by a lot of Laptops you are right. But the 8600 GT and 8600 GTS are nice cards for desktop pc's of average gamers with a limited budget of money. They are not worse because the same chip is used for mobile pc's.

actually you get MUCH better performance out of the newer ATI HD3850, with the same price as 8600GT.
Buying a 8600GT at this point is utter retardness (lol)

Options
High end: 8800GTS 512MB / HD3870x2
Mid-High end: 8800GT / HD3870 if you want a cooler card but with less performance
Midrange: HD 3850 or the new soon to come out 9600GT
Lowrange: Some older card like 7600GT or sth.

My cousin is using a 8800 GT and we both build the pc. It's running fine and there were no problems yet.

But imo, buy a 8600gt or a hd3850. The hd3850 is a bit les cheap but it has got a more than twice the performence of the 8600gt.
I've also got a p4 3.0 ghz, and with the hd3850 i can get 100 fps stable in cod4 @ a reso of 1200-1024
I don't think a 8800 will perform better than a 3850 on your pc, cause ur processor is to weak

im buying an entire new pc :P i seen 8600 is more for mobile pcs and no idea wtf is hd3850 :P its nvidia or something?

The HD 3850 is fine too. The complete name is "ATI Radeon HD 3850". You can get it for 150 € here already.

HD3850 is the top of the midrange and 8600GT can't compete.
anyways ofcourse 8800gt will not cause problems when you have a good PSU to feed it and the card isn't defective

dunno, my hd3850 works fine in ET and cod2. i've 125 fps stable with high settings in cod2.

Best value for your money would be either an Nvidia 8600GS/GT or ATI 2600pro. 8500GS is just not worth it.
